Less than four weeks!!!!!

That said - I want to take photos, of course...but I'm wondering - is my Canon SLR going to be too cumbersome?

We won't do any water rides - and probably nothing that really moves too much either - I am pregnant and we have a toddler. However, the camera bag is big - maybe a 7" square? I don't know if I want to deal with that...but then again, I read a lot of people bring camcorders - and it can't be as bad as a camcorder.

My only other option is doing disposable cameras - which would be *okay* but just not the same quality, yk?

Normally I'd recommend a bag you can clip to your waist, but for you that's probably out of the question for now!
I wouldn't take a disposable. Magic moments can't be captured on a camera costing $10 or less! IMHO.
That said, our $500+ Sony we bought for last year (5 megapixal) was very disappointing, half the pictures were out of focus.

Hi - I have a canon SLR camera too and I have brought it to WDW without a problem. I don't have a case like yours though - I have a neoprene (sp?) one that is the same shape and size as the camera and just slides/stretches right over it. Waterproof too so if I'm stuck in the rain I know my camera is okay. The camera strap hangs out an I slip that on my shoulder, around my chest or around the stroller. I bought the bag at a camera store and it was less than $20. I keep film in the diaper bag.

Hope this helps some --- the quality of pictures that you'll take w/ an SLR is worth bringing it!

I second what the above poster said about just swapping your case for something more form fitting.

I just was at WDW with my 6 1/2 year old DD- traveling solo with her so I had to shlep all that needed daily stuff myself. I easily put my Nikon SLR with a 28-105 lens in my day bag and just kept extra film and batteries in an outside pocket.

I loved having my camera with me and would have been frustrated to no end with the lack of zoom and flexibility a disposible would have.

Plus side is that you will have a stroller for your toddler and hopefully will have a compartment to carry stuff in it.

Have a great trip and have the peace of mind knowing what quality pics you will get with your own camera.

You indicated you had a toddler so I would assume you will have a stroller. I have a large backpack camera bag that fits my Canon, all 3 lenses, flash, and digital-8 camcorder, along with film, extra batteries, etc. I just kept the bag below the stroller and grabbed it when we went on attractions. It was not really a bother since most of the time it was under the stroller.

I've never been to Disney with my SLR camera, but from my many travels in Australia, Europe, New Zealand, and Asia, the most you'll need is one lens (around 22mm-55mm). Or if you want to go slightly overboard, go up to 80mm.

Beyond that, yes you'll may need it ocassionally, but it's not worth the extra weight.

The lens I used to carry at all time is Canon 22-55mm USM, 80-200mm non-USM, Sigma 400mm mirror lens (can't remember exactly, I sold this one years ago), and a Canon 18-24mm lens.

Now I only carry the 22-55mm everywhere I go.

Well, not really, now I use Canon Powershot A80 with .7 wide conversion (making it 26.6mm) and that should be enough.

That and a tripod.

I carried an SLR around all four parks 11/1-11/5 without much trouble. I had a back pack with snacks for the kids, rain ponchos, etc... and stuffed the camera in there on wet or "wild" rides.

I carry my SLR and camcorder in a backpack, and my digital camera in my fannypack. I have always been glad to have all 3 cameras with me. And it always works out fine. Most of the time I have the SLR hanging from its strap on my shoulder, that way I can snap a picture at any moment. But I have found keeping it in a backpack, which we all take turns carrying, works great. Also as said above when my children were younger it all traveled on the stroller which was even better!
