Camera on water rides at Universal

So, I know that I'll have to put my DSLR in a locker for the faster rides at Universal. Waiting in a locker line is a worthwhile trade since pics are half of the fun. However, a soaked camera is NOT a worthwhile trade.

When I'm at WDW I avoid Kali for this reason but for every other ride (including Splash) I just put my camera in it's fitted, (sock-like) water-resistant neoprene case which I then place inside a ziploc bag, all of this fits in the baggalini.

So, any rides at Universal that should just be avoided or will the neoprene case plus double bagging be enough?

Lately I've just been using a plastic shopping bag to keep dry. I used to use Ziplocks, but I have more junk with me these days and it's just easier to dump it in a large plastic bag. I trekked though a downpour like that this summer and while I ended up soaked to the skin, my camera was nice and dry.

A Ziploc alone is more than adequate protection as long as it's closed up good. The neoprene case... be aware that they tend to seep really badly at the seams so while it's great to fend off splashes, it probably won't do much when it comes to being drenched. The neoprene will, however, protect your camera some from getting banged about and keep it from getting grimy.. this is why I use one. And I take my camera on every ride I'm allowed to.

If you're really worried get a dry bag (like used for camping, boating, etc.) They work well and you can easily fold it up somewhere when you're not using it.

I don't have great advice for Universal, but I've found that my camera in its slingshot all-weather bag in a plastic garbage bag does fine on Kali (stowed in the center compartment). And this time I thought to bring the waterproof p&s, so we have some pictures of us on the ride.

I took my first DSLR on Jaws. It was in a camera bag beneath my knees. During the final confrontation with the shark, I got totally soaked.
When I got off the boat and took my camera out it was dead. I should have headed the warning signs!

Strangely enough, I went on Jaws last year (left the camera with my wife who didn't want to ride) and found myself sitting in exactly the same seat as the first time and didn't get wet at all.

Yikes nigelp! That would be HORRIBLE! So sorry that happened- it must've been just awful. :sad2:

Can I ask if you had a plastic bag or just the camera bag?

Just a camera bag. My own fault I thought that when they say "You might get wet" that it would be like the "wetness" you experience on a ride such as Pirates!

Luckily my insurance came through and I was able to upgrade the camera!:):yay:
