Camera help for a head chopper!

I am an admited head chopper! Need a digital one, my first (gasp!)
Budget- <$350
Would like- >6 mp
Would love- IS
Wishes- dslr (too expensive and i'm a newbie!)

YOu should be able to get a canon S2 IS for right about $350. Its a great camera. I know that Costco has it for $339 if you have a membership. I'm sure there are some other places that have it for that price or less. Its only 5mp, but it takes great pictures.

Olympus Stylus. Easy to use and taes great pictures. I think you can get the 710 plus a 512 mb memory card for about $300. It comes with a rechargeable battery and and charger and stuff.

i thought the canon s2 was closer to $300 than $350( lately someone posted seeing it for $280, you might do a search and see or try price grabber or reseller). my daughter has the canon a 620 which is 7 mp and the same sensor as the s2, about $220 but not IS or the better zoom...the nice thing imo about the canon ( either one,don't know about the others) is that it has some auto modes ( like the 620 has a kids and pet, landscape, fireworks etc) so you can just take a snap shot if you want to but also has some modes where you set your own shutter or aperture so you can branch out into a little more creative stuff and maybe work up to a dslr. the s2 was rated really highly by lots of photo reviewers..google S2 IS reviews and you should find tons

The OP wants Image Stabilizer. None of the Olympus Stylus have a real image stabilizer. It does "stabilize" the image by boosting the ISO in order to get faster shutter speed OR using the gyro information to fix the blur after the picture was taken.

I would strongly recommend S2 too. Or if you want really clean high ISO but care less about image stabilization, Fuji F10 has THE ABSOLUTE cleanest high-ISO performance amongst ANY P&S cameras. Quick startup time too (1 second, double the speed of Olympus Evolt 500 2-sec startup time) also virtually no shutter lag (0.011 sec lag time according to the manual, almost as fast as a dSLR)
