Camera Christmas Gifts?

<sigh> I got nothing related to photography. The reason? "You already have everything."

Not true!

I'm thinking of using some Christmas money to buy one of those monopods by Manfrotto that have the 3 little legs that can sprout out to form a sort of tripod. The sensible side of me says, "NO WAY! You've already got 2 tripods and a monopod." The spendy side of me says, "Oooooh....you only have to bring one monopod now instead of a tripod AND a monopod."

And I had to go out today and buy a camcorder since nobody bought me one. Sheeesh! Oh well...come summer, I'll need a pack mule to carry all the crap on my vacations....maybe somebody will buy me one of those next Christmas.

Somehow I suspect one of those will not exactly have the stability of a true tripod... I've resigned myself to bringing the monopod and the sturdy new tripod but probably will only actually carry one at a time. I have decided that I can hang the monopod off my belt via a carabiner and I improvised a strap for the tripod so I can sling it across my back or off the shoulder, leaving my hands free. Hopefully they'll work in practice as well as they work with my tromping around the living room!

mabas9395, the Bogen 3021BPro sounds awfully nice. That was what I was probably going to end up with before deciding that I needed something slightly lighter and shorter and went with a Slik Pro CF.

Too bad the tripod thread never really got off the ground.......

Oh, to keep the thread on topic, I forgot, I did get one photography-related present - a "Disney Live" picture frame from Hong Kong. :)

What I thought I was getting was a Nikon Coolscan V ED LS50 film scanner.

What I did get was a note to say 'out of stock - item ordered will be despatched as soon as available'

I got the short course for my Canon S2 IS, since I know nothing about photography and need lots of help. Thanks to this board or I would never have been able to point DH in the right direction or right web site to order.

DW received the following:
Canon PowerShot S3 IS
Lowepro Edit 110 bag
2 2GB Sandisk Ultra II SD cards
12 AA Energizer rechargable batteries
Enegizer recharger (slow charge)

I received the following:
Quantaray Urban Gear U100 Pro Backpack.
It's way too big for what I have. I'll either need to spend thousands of dollars to fill it, or I can exchange it for something smaller?:confused3

Well that answer is obvious... you need to fill it. Why else would your DW have given it to you. The size implies that you have the authority to fill it :rotfl2:

You could always save the extra space for storing things for a vacation to say... WDW? Maybe she was saying with her gift that it is time for another trip :)

On a serious note, you probably shouldn't ask us b/c I doubt anyone will say to return it for something smaller.

We bought both DSs extra memory cards since they will be taking great trips this summer. DH got me Photoshop Elements. I want to take my photos and turn them into unusual/ unique notecards for gifts. I bought myself the Missing Manual!

Make sure to let us know what you think when you do get it. One of those is on my list for the coming year, if all goes well........ especially if I can find all my old negatives!

Oooh, I forgot about books. I just got "Light - Science and Magic, Second Edition: An Introduction to Photographic Lighting" today, does that count?

Hey! I have that book. I am not quite done reading yet. It is not the most exciting read in the world, but very informative and easy to understand! :thumbsup2

I agree. It's one of the best photography books I've read. The thing that I love about it is that it explains why things work rather than just telling you what to do. I learn much better by understanding rather than memorizing, so the approach is working well for me. Then again, I haven't tried to apply any of it yet.

OK, so I am going to try this from memory...

An Energizer AA battery charger with a total of 12 rechargable AA batteries
A 12-in-1 Sandisk card reader (reads like every kind of memory card ever made:rotfl: , although now I am thinking the firewire reader would be cooler, but also more expensive...hmmm:rolleyes1 )
A Gepe card safe that holds 4 memory cards (I have the 2-card version and love it!)
A lensbaby macro lens kit
A LensPen
2 books - Master Lighting Guide for Portrait Photographers by Christopher Grey and Master Lighting Techniques for Outdoor and Location Digital Portrait Photography by Stephen A. Dantzig
Manfrotto 322RC2 ball head

Almost forgot, I got a Giottos Rocket Air cleaning kit in my stocking.

Manfrotto 322RC2 ball head

How do you like the pistol grip style? My wife is getting me a tripod and head for Christmas but I have to pick it out first. I'd be interested in your thoughts on it.
