Im looking to buy a camera - camcorder which is combined, easy to switch between stills and video. I would like a small and compact design.

Can anyone give suggestions :)

A lot of them allow you now to shoot stills while shooting video. Do you want HD? I have been trawling the net and bookmarked a ton of camcorders this week, although I don't want mine too compact (I already have a very compact one and found it really hard to keep steady!)

I agree with Lee.......too small and even with steady shot enabled, it can be difficult to hold still when using the longer end of the zoom range. Decide on which is most important to you, video or stills. There is a sacrifice on both type.
Video cameras tend to have a lower res (Megapixels) than a compact or DSLR camera when shooting stills, whereas still cameras - particularly when shooting video in HD, tend to have less storage space.
Panasonic have a good balance in the TZ range

If I had some spare money it would be the TZ20 for me, we have the TZ7 which is brilliant, been an expensive year with new dishwasher, computers etc so just can't spend anymore just yet.

£242 less £30 offer = £212

Price keeps dropping on Amazon.com to around £180 delivered(hotel/villa) but with £30 offer on co.uk probably not worth the saving (DMC-ZS10 in US)

hi we bought sony handycam dcr-sr58 i have no idea if its any good haven't used it yet but the picture quality looks is really good.

How's the searching going? :goodvibes

Make yourself a list of priorities and the features or functions you are willing to compromise on and those that you won't budge on.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I am also shortlisting and reading reviews until my head is spinning

Just touching on the point of having something compact, once again; there is little difference in the size of camcorders nowdays in that they are all pretty compact. Howe.er, the difference between a pocket sized camcorder and any other small compact one is relatively minimal unless you literally want to keep it in your pocket.

I've just bought the Panasonic HX DC1 from Currys, it's down to £139 at the moment. It takes 14megapixel stills, which are only 2mp when filming, and has excellent video quality too.

Stop giving us more options - some of us are finally working on a shortlist here :rotfl2:

:rotfl: Sorry! It depends a lot on what price range you're looking at though - mine's definitely one of the cheapest. I set myself a max price limit of £175 and knew that I wanted an HD camcorder/camera that could fit in my pocket, and when I saw that one on sale I thought it was ideal. It's a gun-like design as opposed to the standard ones which I thought was good as it seems less intrusive - definitely won't be getting in the way of firework/parade viewing :goodvibes

The battery life is only about an hour though so I've had to buy two extra batteries (£20) - if you're looking for a long lasting battery it's probably not the best one for you unless you wanna pay a little extra for spares :)

(I'll stop confusing you now!)

I did go and have a look at the one that you mentioned. It's not a bad little camera, but very similar in capabilities and features to the one which I have (although minus the optical zoom). I am still going to take the little pocket HD one I have with me as it is fab in the daylight or any natural light, but I wanted something where I have a more steady grip and a decent zoom as well as some other features. Since it is a good idea to drop down from HD in very low light situations, I have decided that HD is not a priority to me so I have now narrowed it down to 2. Just waiting to see how the bidding goes ..... I find it really irritating when people bid on items too soon and keep putting in another bid when prompted to do so, thus pushing up prices. :rolleyes1 I like to suddenly appear in the last 10 seconds and make everyone wonder "Where the heck did she come from?" as I march through the checkout with my item :lmao:

My bidding tactics are the same as yours Lee :surfweb::yay:

I was going to say we would bid well together - but more likely we would be rivals in the final seconds :lmao: Early bidding inflates the price :confused3 but those of us who are smart ... and patient ... bag the best deals :thumbsup2

I have never understood why anyone bids on anything early. 6-8 seconds for me, I have 2 windows open, 1 with the countdown, 1 via a cashback site ready to press confirm bid, when the countdown gets to 10 seconds I switch screens and count to 4.
Monday evening for next item I am bidding on, credit card machine paper rolls, £21 from bank for 20, £6.95 on ebay with 1 roll missing, not something I have ever been bid against though, not a popular item.

The thing that amazes me most is the apparent lack of research people do before bidding. I watched a lens for my camera time after time on eBay for over a month and eventually bought one brand new on a good special offer for less than each and every one I had watched had sold for (and those were all used lenses) :confused3

I also use the 2 window approach. Actually, I have a bad habit of having a pretty big line-up of open tabs across my screen at any given time :rotfl:

Another thing I picked up on, albeit pure fluke, last month was a particular seller who puts things on for the starting bid of £1. I put in an early bid of £1.04. It immediately tells me I have been outbid, although it fails to show another bidder. Later when the bidding closes I always get a notification that I did not win the item, followed by a further email inviting me for a second chance to buy ..... at £1, Buy It Now :lmao:

So it has taken me a while to collect all the things I need, but it is working really well and saving me a fair bit of money in the process :thumbsup2

Now to find a camcorder on this shop's website ....

I can't believe the prices some things sell for, I have just bought an item this week(can't say what as its a pressie) Amazon I paid £106 delivered, Ebay cheapest sold recently £130.73.
Someone has it listed at £199.00 buy it now, another at £162.82 the RRP is only £149.99 :confused3

What's peoples reviews on the toshiba camelio P20

I have looked at the panasonic one :thumbsup2

I currently have a jvc about 3 years old.;)

Have you read the online reviews? cnet and revoo are just two of many sites which usually have a good number of reviews.

The thing to keep in mind is that people will rate a product based on a combination of their own needs and purposes when using it so some of it is always going to be a bit subjective. You can usually spot the ones where someone chose poorly and weed them out quite easily. Sometimes you find yourself swimming in so many reviews that it can be quite daunting so again, I do recommend having a list, not necessarily written down, but knowing what you absolutely must have and what doesn't matter as much, before reading so that you can pick through the relevant ones and disregard the rest.

Have you finished your room makeover already?

:):rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: the room makeover.

Chloe wants her room fully changed for her birthday present in dec, sliding wardrobes, dressing table, double bed new flooring, bed set, curtains, rugs, :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: only 9 so some things are not happening.!!!!

However I am surprising her when she is on a school trip and getting it as a just because present.

So today was checking wardrobes in ikea, then let her loose in next with £100 budget :thumbsup2

£109 later, bed set, and valance, rug, bin, guitar cd holder, pictures.

Trying to persude her that her bed is fantastic and no need for a double just yet :lmao:

It's only 2 years ago when we moved home and her bedroom was new!!!!!
I must be mad or very soft :thumbsup2

I'm now debating with myself whether to talk her out of wardrobe and say discovery cove instead :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Thanks for the tip on reviews
