We began our first experiences in the digital world with Kodaks. The very first one was the utlra simple Easy Share CX7300. My 14 year old now has that one because she doesn't have a huge interest in taking the pictures but is great at editing what we take. The next step was a Kodak Z650 which has been fairly nice for what it is. Lately, it has started "grinding" (for lack of a better word) and not powering up. This is a very hit and miss kind of thing right now. Sometimes it's fine and sometimes not. So, I'm thinking my 18 year old needs a new camera; I'll have the Z650 repaired (if it's worth it) and that becomes the 14 year old's camera. Now, I need advice on the new camera. It is for my 18 year old who loves to take pictures. However, we aren't going the SLR route yet because this camera will go to college with her. I don't really want an SLR hanging out in a dorm room. I'm thinking I want to get away from Kodak, too. I don't like the fact that there is no image stabilization with it. She wants a good zoom, too. So, I'm wide open to ideas and suggestions. I don't want something she will get terribly frustrated with. She enjoys photography but being a pre med major, she really isn't going to have loads of time to "play with it and learn." Thanks in advance for all ideas!
