Camera $200 or less

Im really needing help with finding a new camera. After several years, my camera broke. It was a simple point and shoot. Im looking for the same thing to replace it before we go in September. Here is my wish list:

1. Enough zoom to take some great castle pictures from far away
2. Video capabilities is a must
3. Shock: I noticed my videos on my last camera were HORRIBLE because of me moving while I was videoing. The bounce was terrible. I want something way better than this
4. Need some compact so I can easily take in everywhere.
5. Want decent night pictures.

Thanks ahead of time. I dont know the first thing about cameras so I dont know the difference between the brands good or bad. Let me know if you want me to post a few pictures from my last camera so you can see what I had before. I had a Sony Cybershot before.

Most of getting a great shot is a result of the photographer and not the camera they used. Even the masters could have painted a masterpiece with a set of brushes from Walmart. That said, good quality tools do make the job easier.

#1 and #4 together will be more expensive. #3, image stabilization will help, but it's not a miracle worker. I personally only shoot video with a tripod because it comes out looking like the Blair Witch project even with a high end camera. Funny that I can hold steady with my DSLR down to 1.15 but I can't shoot steady video to save my life. IS is great, but it won't help everyone and don't expect a miracle.

#5... there are a lot of people who will tell you that you're going to need a DSLR for good low light shots. I don't agree. But you do need a good bit of know how to pull them off with a point and shoot.

Most of your requirements will probably put you above $200 when it comes to current models. I'd go look at Canon, Fuji and Panasonic and see which cameras have the basic features you want and fit your budget then go to the store and play with them. And check reviews from dpreview.com, they are pretty fair over there.

For your parameters, I'd look at the Lumix or a Sony in that price range. There is not really going to be a distinguishing factor among the many cameras in the price range you are listing.

I'd also invest in a small tripod or gorilla pod and make sure you scope out firework shooting placement early and elbow all the people who will try to cut in front of you.
