now I REALLY have some questions. Somehow I missed this March 20th deadline thingee prolly because I was too busy planning trips :surfweb: Anyways, I've been thinking about purchasing in BLT but now what to do, Re-Sale or Direct?

I do like the idea of

using points for cruise, tokyo disney, disney paris and also having options of staying in "collection hotels."

My concern, since I plan on buying a smaller contract (100 points) and maxing out at maybe 175 is the whole idea of loyalty tiered perks....I know I know Disney's perks are just that--not written in stone, but if I bite the bullet and buy direct and later down the road some of the direct perks become reserved for higher end contract holders, well....that ain't so magical.... I just got this wonky vibe from talking to salesperson that even buying direct I shouldn't count on being able to book Disney Dream on points? :sad1: I thought that was the whole POINT of the club as I've understood from previous sales pitches? This was REALLY disturbing to me? I actually discussed today paying cash for a contract today and felt this vibe?

Also, the current direct BLT incentives are pretty non existant--they act like it's such good deal giving you current UY points and next years? I'm not excactly stupid? So wondering if I should buy a smaller BLT resale contract (probably stripped) for future long weekend kindof trips like MNSSHP etc. and wait for a GFV or :cloud9: Poly or buy direct for BLT and hope that this tiered loyalty thing doesn't get ugly?

thoughts?

:goodvibes thanks!

My only thought on this is that there was no Disney Dream when we bought OKW in 1994. Things have changed over the years that we've owned DVC. Some changes I thought were good, some not so much.

But in the end, we have to remember that what we're buying is deeded ownership in a piece of real estate and the ability to book a few nights there every year.

Start looking for a cheaper BLT contract and use the extra dollars to pay cash for other options.

I think you should do as dean said. Buy resale and pay cash for the trips you MIGHT take later. Things always seem to be changing, so buy where you what to stay.

agreed, the reason I haven't thought of buying till now is I like resort hopping and truly smaller point allocations aren't as feasible for international destinations.

I think the thing that is sortof rubbing me the wrong way is that there was / is supposed to be something different about Disney being a club that could grow with your family (dd is 8) and I had visions of dipping a toe in with a smaller resale contract, then seeing how it worked for us during our yearly October trip ((and maybe that's still what will happen))... so yeppers everything happens for a reason and maybe me being chronically late is no ordinary? :rotfl: I do understand tho it is a timeshare and the deed is a guarantee at a home property, just lamenting what seems to a harder bottom line and a perception of maybe less value, especially given past marketing of dvc and the idea of points helping you see the world? But I'm also a shareholder so can't have my mickey bar and eat it too...

thanks for your wisdom, truly appreciated especially from long time owners :goodvibes

the only thing we truly can count on is change!

If you like resort hoping, might as well look at something much cheaper like SSR or OKW. Then you can make 11 month reservations and try for other things at 7 months out wait listing when necessary. It'll save you about half of the investment other than closing costs.

If buying resale (which is a great money saving way to go), I would just say be absolutely sure you're ok with only being able to use the points as dictated by the deed.

While they've only removed a few perks today, I imagine that may change again in the future. We got in ahead of the change only to protect the distinction between direct and resale. I don't care about the loss of perks as given now, but I may care in the future and therefore wanted to remain a "direct" purchaser by getting in before 3/21.

That being said, even direct purchasers should only assume the terms of the deed.

What is DVC presently offering? 2 months ago they were offering BLT at 115 ppt with a reference from current DVC member plus 2010 points and 500 gidt card. Works out to not be much more than resale.

All other properties would be resale for me.

Lots of food for thought here....Right now I'm basically deciding between a direct buy of $130pp with a referral (for 100 pt. contract) ~ and getting 2010 + 2011 points OR waiting a bit for a smaller resale contract. I'm still thinking about how big a deal losing the cash option is for me and how I'd envisioned using the plan--even if I eventually amassed say 300 points?

I kindof like Dean's advice about buying a smaller resale since that was where I was leaning in the first place. Its attractive in two ways: It gives me an intro to the club and how it'll work for us; and, after we have/use the smaller contract we will know whether we want to add another contract with more points (which could be a direct buy candidate.) Also, since I enjoy resort hopping split stays probaby wouldn't be a big deal either.

I know that my salesperson seemed pretty unsure if our available points could be used for our upcoming trip too, so that made me lean a bit more towards a resale as well.
