Help! I am in desperate need of a new camcorder for our upcoming DLR trip after Thanksgiving. I have been reading reviews galore but can't decide. We have a Sony now that is about 4 years old and has died Anyone have one they love? We would prefer to get a medium priced one, like $700-$1000 maybe. Any suggestions would be so appreciated. I am lost here Thanks!

I have a Sony that I paid $700 for 3 years ago and it's very nice, but we use our $150 FLIP way more. Like them both but Flip fits in my pocket turns on instantly and quality of Video is amazing. Down side though, I think Flip is out of business.

Whatever you do don't get one that uses tapes! Lost most of the video for a European vacation due to a mangled rewind and couldn't use one in Orlando because it was too humid!

I've got a flip too - really handy - always in my purse. Not great for zooming, but the battery life and capacity are pretty good as is the quality.
I also have a HD Canon Vixia that replaced the tape camcorder for more serious filming that's been great - think it's just about at your price point. Good size as well.
And I recently got a motorola photon phone that has very good HD video capability ( that may be why the flips are leaving the market).

I bought a Sony Handycam XR150 about two years ago and love it. It is a high def camcorder and has a 120gb hard drive and if that's not enough, it also takes memory sticks. It cost less than $500. I think the memory is even bigger on them now. Amazon is a great site to check out for them.

I have to third the suggestion for a Flip style camera. 1080HD and easy opeeration. Plus something that fits in your pocket is nice when getting on and off rides all day.
