I have just read that you cannot put any camera equipment in the hold. I want to take my camcorder, do you have to take it as hand luggage? Is this allowed since 9/11? Can anyone help me on this one?

we always take all our camera and camcorder equipment as hand luggage, no way am I risking it being thrown about by baggage handlers.

I haven't seen anything to say this is the case :confused3:

I wouldn't want to put it in the hold personally as I would think it safer to keep it close by.

Having seen how the baggage transfer our luggage :scared1: I wouldn't dream of putting camera equipment in the hold.
I have got a bag, near to max cabin luggage size, which contains my camcorder bag, digital camera bag & travel documents.
The camera chargers etc. I put in a clear plastic bag inside of the suitcase :thumbsup2

No, camcorders can be put into the hold if you are insane enough to do so! :goodvibes
The only times I have seen this is where someone has a proper travelling camera/camcorder box, but with the incedents of luggage going errrrrr "missing" I would be very wary of doing that.

Just remember that when taking it on the flight as hand luggage it is NOT in addition to other hand luggage but is classed as your single item of hand luggage.

Many of us are using this rucksack now

Or similar products.

As Obi suggests backpacks are great for camera equipment. I have a similar one which holds my laptop, Dslr, lenses and camcorder.:)

Thanks for your replies. :thumbsup2 As I was not planning to take any handluggage on board with me, I am going to take the camcorder as my hand luggage.

Have a great day and remeber the MAGIC:wizard:

Can I ask where you read that you cannot take cameras in checked bags.

In the Cosmos travel brochure I Quote " Films and camera equipment is safe in hand luggage but not in the bags you check in to the hold" This is under the Flights X-Ray section of Essental Information.

I guess that the X-Ray may not clearly show what you have in the bag with regards to camera equipment.

I think they are referring to undeveloped film, ie 35mm, as the xray machines for hold luggage are much stronger and it can effect undeveloped film.
