what is a good website to buy these? i know nothing about either but best buys quoted me about $70 for the camcorder battery

and i don't know what kind of memory card to buy for the camera i have 2, one came with the cemara and hold about 30 photos, the other i got from my dad and it holds about 1100 photos, what are the best brands?

thanks oh it doesn't have to be the same webiste for both( would be good but i can order from diff ones if need be)

I use both newegg.com and zipzoomfly.com for my memory cards. I use zipzoomfly the most due to free 2 day shipping on most items. Usually, I try to go with Kingston as my brand in as fast a card as I can buy. I like the 120x or 133x speeds as they allow the camera to write to them VERY fast and you will never have a problem waiting to take the next photo. If your camera is a higher megapixel camera (like above 5.0 MP) then this is a consideration. I have had luck with the lesser name brands like Ultra, but I have always had good luck with Kingston as far as computer memory chips so they continue to get my business with my photo needs. The first thing to do is figure out what type of memory you need though. Is it SD, Compact Flash, XD, or another type? That, you need to figure out first before anything else. Good luck with your search.

I just bought an inexpensive Samsung DVD Camcorder (the sc-dc173U). It says for still photos, need a memory card (not included).

I checked the instruction manual, and it says UP TO 2g only, and that due to manufacturer differences, not all brands will work. It also says SD/MMC. Meaning EIther/Or, right?

I don't know ANYTHING about memory cards. can anyone help? I found a great price on a "ACP-EP Memory 2 GB Extreme Performance 150X SD Card ( EPSD/2GB-150X )"....it's about $19.99.

Anyone??

Camcorder still shots are not large so the write speed is not very important. You do not need a high speed card (no 40X, 60X, 120X, etc is needed). Also, go with DS. MMC is a practically dead format. I would stick with a major brand like Sandisk, Lexar, Kingston, etc. I buy all mine from Buy.com and Newegg.

dumb question -- what does ds mean?

I have that same dvd camcorder. Unless your doing so simply as another picture option, don't bother taking stills. They come out terrible. They are low-res pictures, but they just look horrible. Also, for your video images use the highest setting for your dvd's.

I will have to go back to the manual, to figure out settings. I tried the camcorder out last night, at the Irish American Club. My kids were about to take the stage, and I couldn't get it recording for a few minutes. Should have seen me trying to get it to connect it to the TV afterward. Couldn't figure out how to get it to NOT record (I recorded feedback.SCREEEEEEEEEEECH) that I can't figure out how to delete. Probably can't delete it, since I didn't use RW.

Anyway, thanks for the help! I won't bother with stills. Is that the only thing the SD card is good for? And are the pix just as bad if you increase the quality in the menu?

oh, and anoher question. What kind of DVD's do you recommend? Certain type, certain brand? My home dvd recorder takes DVD-R/-RW. Yesterday I used -R, but I guess there is no way to put the video on my computer till I finalize. Then, when you finalize, you can'[t record on the DVD-R anymore so the rest is wasted, right?

Yeah, forget the stills. I took mine on the highest quality and they all turned out terrible. It's ok as a backup, I suppose. But it is no good for any meaningful photography.

I have used both Maxell and Panasonic DVD - R's. Both have worked well for me. I have been able to play them on my home DVD player. I have also used the Maxell DVD-RDS (double sided). I only get 20 minutes out of each side, but the highest quality setting gives much better video quality.

For them to work on the home dvd player, they must be finalized. And for the dvd-r's, that's it. No more recording on them. If you are putting them on the computer, you could just capture the video from the camcorder without finalizing the dvd. Use Windows Movie Maker to capture direct from the camcorder. that way you can use the rest of the dvd.

Samsung customer services tech people had me try capturing with Windows Media. Turns out Vista's version of Windows Media isn't able to recognize many camcorders.

Stinks that my XP computer broke a week or so ago. Blech. Darn Vista.

If you are still looking for an SD card, I saw in the Radio Shack ad this week that were some Sandisk Memory cards on sale. I believe the 1GB was 12.99 and a 2GB was 19.99.

We are going to Discovery Cove and Sea world and also Bush Gardens in April 2009. I was thinking of buying a camcorder.( We can't Wait !!!!)

1) I saw that Walmart has a Black Friday camcorder: Pure Digital F230 30 minute Digital Camcorder for $79.00 I don't have alot of $$ to spend, Does anyone know if this would be a ok camcorder? I don't need anything fancy.

2)What is the differance between a 2 GB SD Card (Walmart Black Friday $7.00) and San Disk 4 GB SDHC Card ( Walmart black friday $10.00)? I don't know what HC stand for ?

3) My daughter wants her own digital Camera for x-mas she is 8 years old, I saw Walmart has an Samsung 10.2 mp Digital Camera for $69. on Black Friday what do you guys think about that for her ? She have ask Santa for her own Camera.
Thank you for taking the time to read and relpy to my questions !
