Hi there,

1st trip to Orlando in just over 2 weeks

Looking to buy a digital camcorder in Orlando as the first thing I do, so I can record all those (hopefully) special moments.

Dont want to waste many hours shopping around so I was hoping someone could point me to a shop thats easy to find and preferably with a web site so I can make my mind up which model i want before I get there.

Dont know if It matters but I live in the UK and need it to be compatible here.

Thank you :jester: :jester:

Yes, this does matter. The US is on a different standard than the UK. Why do you want to buy the camera here? I'd think you'd have a much better selection of UK-compatible cameras if you buy it at home.

There used to be an electronics shop in the Crossroads shopping center near Downtown Disney. Don't know if its still there - maybe someone else does.

But I think the best advice is to buy it at home. Otherwise, what will you do if you have any kind of problem with it. Can't return it once you are back in UK. Also, buying it now will give you time to get aquainted with the features and have the batteries charged before you leave.

It's going to be really difficult to find a UK compatible camera quickly and easily. I agree that you should buy it and charge it up before you arrive.

Another option would be rent one when you arrive. The recording can be converted to UK when you get home at a camera shop.

I'm not sure where to rent. But, I guess someone on this board will have an idea.

Something just occurred to me. I was thinking of old video cameras that recorded onto film. You asked about digital camcorders. Now that I think about it, I don't think there is a difference in format for those. Computers use the same formats worldwide as far as I know.

That makes buying a camera in the US much easier. But I would still not recommend doing it for the reasons I already stated. Mainly, you should familiarize yourself with the use of the camera BEFORE your trip, you should arrive with your batteries charged and ready to go (new batteries have to charge for most of a day the first time), and you will be stuck if something goes wrong with the camera after you return home since you won't be able to go back to the store to return/exchange it.

I'm an American living in Australia so we kind of run into this problem a lot since the voltage and outlets here are different than the states.

Even though the camera is digital, she'll still need to recharge the batteries, right? And that'll be a problem with the plugs. I guess you can buy an adapter for either way (buy your camera in the UK and get an adapter to charge in the U.S. or vice versa).

I can't help you with the Disney part as I've never been, but just wanted to mention that.

This is in no way an endorsement. I have no idea the reputation of this store, but....

I was just looking at some literature I received about Orlando. The website is iloveorlando.com. There was full page ad for Camera's unlimited. It says that they have Pal and 240v electronics. So I assume they understand what you'll need.

If you need more info, please pm me.
