Has anyone here stayed at the Calypso Cay Suites? We're looking for a place to stay 1 night before we start our week stay at Pop and figured since we don't plan on visiting the parks we would stay off site and explore the surrounding area.

What's everyone's opinion of this place that stayed there? I know it's near the walmart which is nice since we can get some snacks for the week on the way there.

Thanks

Never stayed here, but we stayed at Runaway Beach Resort, which is right next to it. It looked a little rundown last time we saw it, but that was about 2 years ago. I would check out Lake Buena Vista Resort Village and Spa on 535. Its right across from the Walmart, about a 3 minute drive. We stayed there in October and are going back in 2 weeks. Its very nice, large rooms with separate bedrooms and full kitchens and its really cheap!

Well we are just looking for a nice place to stay for 1 night. Calypso Cay seems to be the cheapest by far.

If we aren't going to save a ton we might just book another night at Pop.

We booked a week there 2 years ago and never stayed. The unit was infested with ants and the management was awful to deal with. They had bus loads of people coming in, from where I don't know, but we asked and they said they paid $39. per night!

It might have changed since, but we stay away from that area so I don't know.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input. Helps me from making a bad choice.

So what's a good place under $100 in the Kissimmee area?

I guesstimated on your date and picked 10/22/11. On lastminutetravel.com they have:

Hilton Downtown Disney $85 plus tax (4 * DTD, 14.43 miles to airport)
Hilton Bonnet Creek $96 plus tax (4.5 * Orlando, 12.28 miles to airport)
Best Western DTD $77 plus tax (4 * DTD, 18 miles to airport)

The descriptions above are how you pick which hotel is which on the website. They don't tell you the name until you book, but you can usually use the pictures and desciptions to figure them out.

How was the Runaway? I'm looking for cheap, but decent, clean and safe. Thanks.

I am in the timeshare units now. I will tell you, never again! The unit is a 2 bedroom lockout. It is clean, but checked in on Saturday and have not had internet service until yesterday when I literally chased down (and I do mean physically chased) their IT guy in the lobby of their hotel side where you check in. He kept telling the timeshare people that the internet was "working" when in fact it wasn't. I suggested he come to my unit so he can see for himself that it wasn't. Sure enough, he admitted there were problems with the routers. I had spoken to several owners of the timeshare down by the pool and they are all about to sell due to the lack of upkeep here.

The pools dirty with a capital D. I have never in my life seen them have a vacuum in a pool to clean it at 11:30am while guest were trying to swim :scared1: the vacuum was connected to the skimmer and going along to clean the disgusting pool. The maintenance guy was out there with a leaf skimmer taking his sweet time pulling up the chunks of dirt and mulch. I went to the front desk to inform them that no one can enter the Light House pool as the cleaner is going around it and it was being cleaned by one person since I had gotten there at 10:30 and it was now 11:30 and still cannot enter it. They got a second person over to help.

The hot tubs: the one by the Light House pool, only half the jets work, the one by the main pool (crab pool) is green from algae!

I cannot tell you how the hotel side of this complex is, I have not stayed there in years, but as far as the timeshare side, I would run from it. I have spoken to several owners as I mentioned before and they are all unhappy. One told me when she to turn on her dishwasher, the hose broke and water sprayed all over the kitchen. Another told me her pull out couch had dirty sheets on it.

In my unit they had to come and replace the thermostat as it kept dropping my temperature and many items were missing in the unit when I arrived (utinsiles etc even blender). The towels are from hunger, very thin and dingy looking. The pool towels are the white ones with the blue line down the middle, like you see in a hospital. I am sorry but for a timeshare that one pays a pretty penny to own, that is not right. These towels are like you see in a Days Inn or Motel 6 if you ask me.

Stay away from here. I am here because I paid and will not get my money back. My unit is clean and it is a place to sleep and shower. I will not return. I may not be lucky next time, I may not end up with a clean unit!
