calling to ask about a pin?

I have been trying to research & read as much as I can rather than repeating questions that have been asked a million and one times! I have seen many people reference calling Disney to see if there is a pin attached to their name even if they haven't received anything in the mail. From what I gather, some cast members are eager to help, others are annoyed by the inquiry. I'm going to call in hopes of getting a kind cast member who is willing to check for me, but I have a few questions. . .

  • Do you just say you're calling to see if there is a pin associated with your name? Is it a faux-pas to just call and ask if you have a pin, should you ask something else first?
  • If you don't have one associated with your name, do you check your spouse's name too? Do you do that in the same phone call or should I call back?
  • If you do have a pin, is it a one shot deal? Like book now while I'm on the phone or lose the opportunity? Or is there usually an expiration date, like it has to be booked by April 15 or whatever.
  • What is usually required to book via Disney? Is there some kind of deposit, or do you have to pay the balance in full?
  • Anything else I should know before calling?

Thanks in advance! :)

I have called and had friendly CMs who happily check for you, then there are those that are not willing too--I am not sure what policy is for them on this, but my biggest advice is if you don't get anywhere with the CM on the phone, call back and talk with a different CM. You will have a set date to book by and can book multiple trips under the pin code. They will require a deposit of $200 (for a vacation package) or 1 nights cost (if room only reservation). Sometimes, they will do a 7 day courtesy hold on the room, but I believe that depends on the promotion and its popularity. Good luck!

Hi Jess:

Two of my trips in the last 3 years were discounted b/c I called and asked a CM if there was a code attached to my phone number or email address. Then if I didn't have one, I asked if it was under my sister's name or my mom's (as they were going on the trip with me). Usually, the first CM wouldn't help look up the info and would say I needed to tell them I had a pin and that they couldn't look it up for me. I would try 3 to 4 CMs before one would look for me.

This year I am dying for a pin again and have called 5 times and one CM looked under my name but said nothing was attached to it. Other CMs were very adamant about my needing to tell them the pin, but I don't have one via email or snail mail so the call ended there.

I feel kind of weird asking about the pin codes b/c I feel as though I catch fewer and fewer kind CMs. Many are bland on the phone and don't seem to want to search for info. It seems that as the years go by, it's harder to find a CM who will research your codes for you, but that might just be a rule WDW is trying to enforce more.

One way to solve this issue is to send out more pins...PLEASE!!!;)
