Calling from Caribbean to Canada

A friend is going on a Caribbean cruise and looking for the best way to stay connected with her 10yo daughter at home without it costing them a fortune. Any ideas/suggestions?

Call from a land-based line on the islands. Ask cruise staff where they place their personal calls, and be prepared to stand in line!
Leave the contact number for your cruiseline and instructions how to call you with instructions that the number if for emergency use only.

When we went to Disney at Christmas time, we went to Walmart and purchased a Net 10 phone and 200 minutes for 35 dollars. We used it for the time that we were down there. We went on a cruise leaving from San Juan and I had read that the phone was good for Puerto Rico, St Thomas and St Croix so we took the phone with us and presto it worked like a charm. Even on the last night of the cruise, I was sitting on the balcony and noticed island lights. I tried phoning my daughter and it worked again, no problem. So if you are going on a southern Carribean cruise, this may be worth your while to get this phone

Did work in the Dominican several years ago. Bought prepaid long distance cards while there and saved a ton when compared to Bell rates.
