How are you doing with your cpap machines? I've been a user for 6 years now, first using the nasal mask, then switching to the full face, which I like best. Lately on weekends when I sleep in a couple hours more I find myself start to snore, and my throat closes when it's shortly after the time I would be getting up if I was going to work. It only happens when I'm on my back.

Last April I went with a friend on a trip to Ireland, and one night he said I was snoring! I thought with a cpap mask the snoring would stop.

Anyhow, I have seen my doctor and he wants me to do another sleep test. He thinks the air pressure may need to be bumped up.

I know a lot of Disers use the cpap machines, so I'm curious if any of you had any problems after years of using the machines or masks.

My DH is on a bi-pap machine. He uses the full face mask and his pressure is set to 24 :scared: . He has problems on the weekends also, but not snoring-his causes some kind of inner ear happening :confused3 I swear only on the weekend though and I know of course it's because he is sleeping longer. He's been on it for 3 years now.

I think you may need to have yours adjusted. My step-dad started snoring again while using his and his pressure was changed by one number and it stopped the snoring :thumbsup2

Good luck :)

I've been using a CPAP since 1995 and it's been great. I still use the same type nasal mask I started with. I figure if it's working, don't mess with it. I got used to it the first night.

I definitely recommend doing the test again. For one thing it qualifies you for a new machine and they have made some really good changes in the last few years.

I have been using one, at the same setting (13) since about 1993. I use the nose pillows. I wanted a new machine and my insurance required a sleep study. They decided to change my setting to (15). I got the new machine and tried to use it, but in spite of it having a really good, built in, humidifier, I would wake up 5 or 6 times a night with my mouth and throat so dry that my cheeks and lips would actually be stuck to my gums and teeth and I couldn't swallow. Totally dry. I called and asked to get the setting turned down. They didn't want to go back to the 13 so we compromised on 14. Now it is perfect.

The moral of that windy story is that sometimes it takes a few adjustments to get just the right setting. When it's right it makes a huge difference in the quality of life.

dh swears by his cpap pillow cuz he can sleep on his back or either side without the face mask getting pushed out of place.

Surely sounds like you should have a new sleep study to see if your machine is still adjusted appropriately for your needs. The new machines are wonderful!

Yes! Get another sleep study. You shouldn't be snoring (even on your back) while on a CPAP if it's set properly.

The *exact* same thing happened to me, only it was just after a year and a half of being on my machine. I could feel my throat closing up sometimes when falling asleep or waking up. I got another sleep study, and they said my pressure need had changed.

The doc said sometimes there is no reason for it, but sometimes it is due to aging :sad2: or a bit of weight gain.

Good luck with your sleep study!

I have a sleep study scheduled for Thursday night. Looking forward to it.
