Hi! We are planning a trip during Mardi Gras week at the very end of Feb and very beginning of March, the dates we will be there are Feb 26 to March 5. I have a few questions since I have never been during that part of the year, ;)
What are the crowds like during that time? It is listed as peak season and I can't help but wonder just how crowded it will be since most schools in Louisiana are off most of that week???

Thanks,
Nadia :earsgirl:

edited because I am a lousy speller, lol

The downside:

It was busy this year at Mardi Gras, lots of Louisiana folks there. Crowds were impacted too by The Superbowl in Jacksonville which was the Sunday before Mardi Gras. There also were a LOT of Cheerleader/dance team groups, must have been a convention. Mardi Gras was early.

The upside:

The weather was wonderful, there were a lot of Mardi Gras beads, etc. around. My husband pulled out a doubloon from the pocket of his jacket that he wore while watching Bacchus the night before we left and presented it to a lady on our OKW bus. She was ecstatic. Doesn't take much, does it?

We will be there from 2/25 to 3/4. I didn't know that was Mardi Gras week. Last year we were there from 2/26 to 3/3 and I don't believe it was Mardi Gras week and we didn't see any cheerleaders. I guess we might be in for a different experience this time. Anybody else there for Mardi Gras last year?

Last year, MG was in early February and was crowded because, like someone upthread mentioned, it was also Super Bowl time. MG fell late February a few years ago and crowds weren't too bad at all - but we did see tons of people from La. wearing MG colors and LSU hats.

We will be down there at the same time also. I too was unaware of Mardi Gras week. We went during this time period last year and it was great. The weather was wonderul and the crowds were not bad at all. That's why I chose this time period again. I was hoping to miss all the spring break crowds. I hope this doesn't impact it too much.

Yes, we were there last year and it was superbowl weekend and I heard a lot of people talking about how they were from LA and were there due to Mardi Gras. And as mentioned there were a lot of cheerleaders there. They were even on our plane coming home to Denver, so it must have been some kind of convention. They were all nice folks though and didn't pose much problem. This year with Mardi Gras falling later you won't have the cheerleader factor and superbowl. It was a great time to go, Superbowl Sunday was our last day and it was nuts at MK as the day wore on. The morning was great however, as usual just get there early regardless of crowds and you can't go wrong. I think if Mardi Gras in itself were a huge issue, Disney would always rate that week as a higher priced season like Pres. week is.

Thanks for all of the replies. I really appreciate it. :)
I am sooooooooooooooooooooooo excited about this trip now. The only two times I have been to Disney were in August and the heat was excruciating to say the least (but we still had a blast.) LOL
