I just joined the boards. Been to Disney once, Oct. 2001. Finally going back Oct. 2006, I think. I have been reading info. on this site like a crazed person and going crazy. I really want to go in Oct. because Sept. is so soon after schools starts and really hot or so I heard. Nov. and Dec. for me, are so close to the holidays and weather wise, we really want to swim and hang out a bit in the sun. I have been going crazy reading things about Oct......the heat, the conventions, the hurricanes, more crowded then ever in Oct. Please help. What do you really think?? I know nothing is perfect, but for us, paying that kind of money for a vac. and my husband being lucky enough to get a vac (last year we had a trip booked and had to cancel because of his work) we hope for low crowds, low wait times (also because we have ds3 who is impatient) we want to have a great time (I know, who doesn't) So what do you REALLY think about October???????

We went last Oct - 4 - 11 - it was WICKED HOT, and HUMID... it is still Hurricane season - I think Wilma and a tropical Depression added to the rain and the humidity...

Hurricanes can NOT be predicted in advance, so just be prepared. Also, be prepared for CROWDS - there just isnt the "low" crowd season... after I posted this question last year, I made my plans for that first week of Oct - and I was shocked at how crowded it was, I was not prepared - that's the thing, planning is key - as long as you plan and dont have HIGH expectations, plan on going back to the resort, plan on enjoying the vacation - it will help any vacation!!

and who knows, it could be a pleasant surprise if its not so HOT, or crowded, or there isnt any hurricanes!!

October isnt bad, but it is warmer and busier. We have gone the first week of October and the 2nd wk of November. I prefer the 2nd week of November as it was way less busy and not as hot. We had days in the high 80's low 90's in Oct, but right around 75-80 in November. We were able to do the water parks.

Really though, dont stress yourself out about this. Go with what is most convenient for you. Either time you will have a blast, but my first pick would be the first 1/2 of November.

As far as hurricanes go, Sept is closer to the height of hurricane season than is October. My BIL and his wife have had to come home a total of 3 times in about 5 years(during Sept) recently because of hurricanes(from FL). Up until this past October, we have always had perfect weather. It just seems that the last couple of years, hurricane season has kicked itslef up a notch or two. Who knows what will happen this year. We love October. We were spoiled when we first went as a family right after 9/11. Since then we hate going any other time. And we would hardly think of missing the Food and Wine Festival. If scheduling weren't an issue with my DD's school and such, and seeing as they have extended the F&W FEst into November, then November would be it for us. But if having to choose between Sept. and Oct...October wins hands down.

ETA: I read your post a little more thoroughly...I think if you went the first week or two of November, you'd still have fine swimming weather....and if you stay onsite, all of the resort pools are heated very nicely!

If you can shoot for November, I'd go then instead. The prices are lower than October (Prime Convention Month), the weather is cooler and the parks aren't as crowded.

I agree with eeyore45 (we were there LY Oct. 4-13). The heat and humidity was not worth ever going at that time again! We had friends who traveled the 14-24 and said it was a bit more cooler, however the crowds were large due to fall breaks.

My suggestion is, if you want the fall, go the 1st week of Nov. When we went at this time, the weather was great! We were able to swim and they crowds were great.

We went the first week of Oct in 05 and, oh my, the HEAT!!! It was nasty. Lots of rain too. Busy also due to NJ and other East Coast schools being off for teacher's inservice, or something. This year we are going the first week in Dec.. I wanted to go while warm last year so DD and DS could swim. And guess what? The DD was scared to death of the pool and we never went back. Which was ok since we did not really have time to swim.

First week in Nov is a good time if you still want to swim. I always go within the first 2 weeks of Dec. Some crowds but not crazy like summer. I love to see the Christmas decorations. Some rides have 5 minute line some have 30. It is a little cooler some trips I can pull off shorts and some I cant. always have pants on at night but I have never froze and needed winter clothes.

We're going the second week of November and I'm glad to hear that we probably will still be able to swim! :thumbsup2

Yeah, you should be fine. DH and I were alone with no kids, so we didnt brave it everyday, but we did go to BB once and swim at the resort once. If I would have been a kid, Im sure I would have done it every day! :rotfl:
