We will be making our first trip to VB the 1st week of June. DH, me & dd, age 4 1/2.

First, a question. Can we expect the pool and resort to be crowded (I read on another post about people staking out pool chairs)?

All the experts, please post your can't miss things to do, whether at the resort, day trips, shopping, restaurants, off site places to see, etc.

Thanks!

Yes... unfortunately, this is probably still peak time enough that you will see this happening. It isn't like you can't get a lounge at all though. Around the pool they have the lounges lined up 2 deep (maybe even 3 at some spots). What you will find is that people send little Johnny down at 7am with an armfull of towels to put 5 towels on front row seats. Then the family shows up after the guards start at 9 am. This isn't just VB thing.

For other info checkout our VB info thread. You can also see who else is going and when to VB this year. Post or PM your dates and I'll add you to the list.

We were at Vero Beach in late Dec / early January so I can't tell you about crowds, but I can tell you that we really enjoyed the spinach/artichoke dip from the Green Cabin Room :)

And our children enjoyed borrowing movies from Island Grove Packing (the gift shop) and doing some of the resort activities. The scavenger hunt would be fun to do, and we enjoyed the paper flower making (there were lots of young children doing that one). Make sure to do the unbirthday party (my guys were too old but I've read it's lots of fun).

Take your bug spray for the no-see-ums. And be prepared for heat and humidity.

We found a good little pizzaria up in Sebastian (on Hwy 1, go north from the resort) in the Publix shopping center just past the McDonalds. They are closed on Wednesdays. It's little, too - not much seating - but they have a special on Mondays and / or Tuesdays. I got a "small" calzone that was as big as my head... I'd hate to see how big a "large" one was.

We found that the mall was a bit further of a drive than we expected (we didn't do any shopping but went out to find something to eat) - there really isn't a lot close by.

So what you are saying here is that we need to be out by 6:55am! :thumbsup2

I'm an early riser and I like to take a walk around before and after sunrise. I just feel somtimes like walking around the pool, picking up all the towels, and putting them in the lost & found basket. DW won't let me though.

Lol, sounds like the Germans have landed! In European beach resorts we find that the German's have a habit of getting to the loungers early and placing their towles on them, have never seen this happen in the US before though!

Forewarned is forearmed :teeth: :rotfl2:

Some favorites:

* Champagne Brunch...some of the best buffet brunch food I have ever had. And they keep the buffet looking consistently new and clean; it is never allowed to look sloppy or used-up.

* Ocean Grill Restaurant...love it, love it, love it!

* Padded chairs on the beach...I resisted this because of the "ick" factor of stretching out on material that other people have sweated on. But one day we tried it (three towels covered the pad quite well), and I'm not sure I've EVER been so comfortable in my life. It's a lot cooler down by the water than up at the pool, there's a lovely breeze and the sound of the surf, and the chairs truly are extremely comfortable. I would definitely do that again!

* Sand Bar at Captain Hiram's...what fun! As we watched the sun set, a cloud drifted by shaped exactly like the Disney Wonder. Talk about magical! (And you can take kids there...we left at 9:30, and things were only then just starting to pick up a bit.)

Have a great trip!

We were there at full capacity during presidents day weekend!!!!

And it was just great. I made a comment to myself that WOW I can't believe that this resort is fully sold out (I asked at the desk). Its no worse than other resorts during the summer with people reserving chairs, but we never had a problem. Its a beautiful resort and I can't believe it didn't really sell well at all. I just love it there. Its peaceful and so relaxing.

The only thing is there isn't many restuarants around.

Have a great time!!!
