I noticed on the Disneyland website today that it mentioned that I-405 is going to be closed both ways on the 29th and 30th of september. We need to travel to Magic Mountain on the 29th...yikes! It looks like googlemaps recommends 1-5 as the alternate, but is it going to be insane?? Are there any better ways to go that you local people know about? If not, what should we anticipate traffic being like on I-5? How long will it take to traverse the 1 hour and 9 minute jaunt to magic mountain?? THANKS! :D

Where are you traveling from? If from Anaheim, the I-5 is the better choice anyway...it wouldn't make sense to take the 405.

Last time there was "Carmaggedon", everyone stayed home so traffic was actually fine. Who knows what will happen this time? Either everyone will stay home again, or everyone will ignore the warnings because they stayed home last time and there ended up being no traffic.

We are traveling from anaheim too. :) So I-5 is a better option anyway. I'm glad to hear it might not be so bad! Thanks! :D

I live 20 miles south of Magic Mountain. We drove to Disneyland the last time that they did the Carmageddon closure. It was really a non issue as the locals just avoided the 405.

There were no traffic jams :drive:on the 5 freeway last time. I would think it would be the same this time too. There has been warnings here for well over a month now for planning purposes.

We are driving up from San Diego, maybe 5 or 6 am on the 29th, do you think we'll encounter any traffic problems or things we should avoid?

I think I read it's more up by LA the closure right?

Carmageddon 2 shouldn't affect either of these trips. As others have posted, during the first Carmageddon, everyone was so scared off the freeways, that it was the BEST time to drive on them. Now, there is a concern that people will be too comfortable the 2nd time and create some congestion, but either way both of your routes are away from the closure (especially San Diego to Anaheim).

The only caveat for the Anaheim-to-Magic Mountain trip (definitely use the I-5 all the way) is an unexpected accident. An accident can cause a serious backup, but you can never plan for them. I wouldn't let the 405 closure affect your planning other than being aware that it's happening. Have fun during your trips! :goodvibes

Thanks so much for the great info! :)
