Calling All Seniors!

I am 55 and my hubby is 65 still get around pretty decent (I have a bad hip old injury, but I get around pretty good) we say senior since we have 2 grandkids, we take to the parks regularly or we do solo (we live 3 hrs. away)

so cool to see this thread - could be many good tips coming from postings - but also helps make us feel better to know that we're not alone - just turning senior - but had two hips replaced because of athletic damage and arthritis - so at times i'm a slower walker or fatigued person but still want to see all disney has to offer -

I’m 74, my husband 78 but we hesitate to call ourselves seniors! We work out and walk. I play tennis, pickleball and paddle tennis regularly. I shop for stylish clothes and shoes. I have back pain because of arthritis but try to mitigate it with stretch and exercise. My husband has replaced hips and knees. We take little to no medication. And we love to travel. As for DW my husband could go all day. For me, it’s not the walking, it’s the crowds, the waiting, the trying to keep a smile on my face while I’m hating it. I’m just not a park person anymore. But put me by a resort pool with my kindle and cold drink….thats my happy place!

We have an adult daughter with Down syndrome so we have to live as long as possible, healthy, for her.

When I look at us in our 70s and compare to our parents in their 50s and 60s…we are acting like and feel like 40 years old! But I know irs a blessing that except for some aches and pains we are healthy. All internal organs are intact and working fine. Many of our friends are not so lucky. 3 have advanced Parkinson’s, along with heart and other issues. And 2 have wives with Alzheimer’s. It’s sad to watch friends you have had for 50 years start to fade away .

Enjoy every day my friends!!

Hey Dan !! It’s Linda formerly known as figmentvi. Hope you are doing well.

I just noticed the new forum as well. Seniors Unite !! 😁

Next June will be my 70th birthday and will be celebrating with THREE family trips to WDW. We wanted to do just one family reunion, but my family has grown so much that it wasn’t feasible. So we’re splitting it up into three trips. Believe it or not, Holly will also be celebrating a big birthday, her 50th.

As you may remember, I moved from the Virgin Islands to Asheville, NC. Needless to say it’s been a pretty tough past month and a half. The destruction here has been horrendous. It has been a stark reminder that NOTHING is more important than family and that time spent with family is precious. ❤️❤️
Hi Linda. Great to see you again. Very smart breaking the big one into 3 trips. Good planning. And 70 and 50?!?! Time flies. A early Happy Birthday to you both. Please say hello to Holly for me.

Hopefully you did not experience damage, or if you did, that it was minimal. And yes, family is number one, always. "hug";s

hi dan - so happy to see you still on the boards -
And great to see you again also, @kiddisney. And yes, still here, hard for me to leave.

Hope all is well with you and family. Welcome to senior life.
I have to say Dan that I've been very impressed with the new direction the Dis is heading in since Corey took over.

It does have a nice feel to it doesn't it? It's like opening the windows in the spring and letting in some nice fresh air with the scent of spring in that air.

I am 65 years old and have been many, many times to WDW.. Trying to lose weight for March trip so that I can get around without a scooter. Have lost 25 lbs. so far but still need a little more to do. Touch of arthritis in right knee. Up to walking a little over a mile right now. Thanks for starting this thread.

I am so glad to have found this forum! DH and I are DVC and I'm the Disney lover in our family. He has tolerated my love of Disney all these years. I am 57 and he is 66. His health is not good so do not know if we will ever hit a Disney park again together. We are going to focus on family travel to the non-park locations - next November we hope to spend 10 days at Aulani for example.

I will still make trips to Disneyworld and Disneyland as I am able with friends and family and possibly solo at some point. Disney is still my happy place even as I age and experience various aches and pains. Thanks again for this forum!!

It’s kind of odd/funny/bemusing; I rejected the idea of being a “senior” for a long time. I keep upping my idea of when one becomes a senior citizen. I used to think 60’ish. Now that I’m 75, I’m thinking 80’s up. If/when I hit that marker, I’ll probably revise my opinion upward to the triple digits.

my hubby has occasional temper tantrums, a little foot stomping and scrunched up face "i don't want to be old, i hate old people!"
One of our granddaughters put her hand on his shoulder "that's OK gramps, I still love you even though you're a senior citizen" she turned to her sister and whispered "that's better than being old"

I had to laugh at this - but I wanted give you a Loves emoji too! Your DGD is very wise!

I will be 62 in April (a young senior) ..My younger son and I are coming down in May to celebrate my retirement!!! My husband is not going with us he will be babysitting our 15 year old blind dog. Planning on staying for 10 glorious days! I still love Disney and the rides. We started coming down when our oldest son was 3 and we have had many many wonderful memories over the past 30 plus visits!

When my grandmother was my age, we went into her house, gave her a kiss and went to play with cousins. Really very little interaction. Part of it was she spoke very little english.

When my mother was my age. She did some things with my kids, sang songs, did little crafts (she was a sunday school teacher forever), did a little baking -stuff like that.

With my grandkids, I 'm willing to throw a few footballs (badly), kick a soccer ball a few times. blow millions of bubbles, crafts , tents with blankets , clothes pins and a fence, etc.

More than once, I have thought, my grandmother never climbed under a table (fort) or did talent shows or.......

Why the change with generations?

We lived on a farm and my father worked from dawn to dusk to provide for us. Being a “girl”, I was not involved that much with the farm or him. I did most of the things with my mom. In his late sixties he stopped farming. My mother babysat my boys while I worked. It was amazing to see how good he was with them he helped with them because he had time..

Probably because we are much more active and aware of how important it is to keep moving.

My parents passed away young, my Dad of a heart attack at 55 and my Mom at 65. I have passed both and when I think back to them. They were olderish at a younger age. Didn't go out a lot, didn't travel much. The longer we are able to keep active, the better off we are.
