Hello, everyone!! Here's the details so far...My mom and dad are heading South for a few months this winter - driving from New Brunswick, Canada, and are planning to head to South Carolina for an extended vacation...they are looking for, as my mother says, "lovely" things to do...they like to walk the beaches, flowers, museums, take a drive...all those very relaxing things to do:D
They are also looking for recommendations on places to stay, any ideas on B&B's, inexpensive - but clean!!;) Motels, maybe off the "beaten path"... any suggestions/web links or pm's are much appreciated!! Thanks all!!:sunny:

SSB is from Charleston, so a bit partial... ;)

Lots of historical sites, great beaches close by, etc. There are many areas close by, such as Mt. Pleasant where you could probably stay for a lot less, as the B&B's can be pretty pricey in Charleston, especially on the weekends.

Well I lived in Columbia SC for 20 years before DH took me off to Alaska when he joined the military. There is so much to do in SC, it just depends on your parents.

In Columbia, there are some wonderful museums...the State Museum and the Columbia Museum of Art. If they want to walk on the beaches then tell them to head to Myrtle Beach SC which is in the northern most part of the state. Also in Columbia is Riverbanks Zoo. Nothing spectacular, but for Columbia, it's a very nice zoo. :teeth:
I was only there once, but was 4 so I don't really remember, but Charleston SC is where most say is the BEST part of SC. Also Hilton Head gets a big vote for many. I'm sorry I can't tell you where to send them but if I can find a link on South Carolina attractions, I'll send it to you.
Okay, I found a link. Either you can do it or your parents...just follow what the drop down menus tell you to do. Columbia is in Richland County if you chose to put that in. Just chose the city they want to visit (try the ones I gave you Columbia, Myrtle Beach, Charleston and Hilton Head), when they will be visiting, and check the things they are looking to do and it will give you a listing, okay?
If you have any questions, PM me or ask here, I'll do my best to help you.

I went to Greenville last weekend to visit some of my boyfriends family. It was beautiful up there!! Cant give ya much advice, but I hope you have a great trip...it sounds like fun already! :)

Looks like these guys gave you some good ideas! I am from upstate SC, but lived about 20 yrs in Charleston! PM me if you have any questions!

SC is great ... beaches & mountains all within about 3 hours!
(Obviously, I am a bit biased!) :)

Hope your parents have a wonderful time!

Great tips !!

Mom and Dad are so excited to go....sshhh, don't tell them, we're giving them some nights at HHI - DVC...I think they'll like it:D

Any great restaurants in Charleston - Mt. Pleasant that they should definitely not miss?

Thanks again for all your help...my Dis friends are the best!!:sunny:

How about visiting the Congaree Swamp in Columbia? It has recently gained national park status and in the winter you don't have top deal with mosquitoes and you can enjoy it. Lots of huge old cypress trees with boardwalks through the swamp. It is really neat and not something you see everyday.
