You see for me, I went to Disney for years and years and every time thought to myself 'What are all these people doing with those silly things round their necks? Surely they've got better things to do with their time?!'

Then one dark and stormy winter's night, THE FLU CAME and I was pretty bed ridden for 3 weeks. The only thing I had to pass the time, when I wasn't feeling quite so bad, was the internet, and for some STRANGE reason (and I still don't know why) I found myself on a pin trading site...AND SO IT BEGAN! 3 days later my first pin came in the mail. and then another and another and another! 2 months later I spent a WHOLE 7 days at WDW desperately looking for an LE Donald Duck hidden mickey set...and there you have it, now I AM ALSO one of those people with the 'silly thing' round my neck...I'm a pin addict and proud!!!

Stu :dance3:

Before pins, I collected Fantasia stuff. Well, October of 1999 they were doing a photomosaic pin set of Spaceship Earth and all the little rectangles were scenes from Fantasia. We were there in October of 1999 and by the time we got there, some of the puzzle pieces were gone. I told myself. Well, that ends that. If I can't have the whole work of art, I'm not buying the pieces that are still for sale and have half the puzzle. Then I saw a framed Chernabog (Night on Bald Mountain Fantasia sequence) and said "Well this is a lot less than I planned to spend, I'll just get this one......" and that was the start down a looooooooooooooooooong slippery slope that has been draining my wallet for 10 years. But it's been great fun and I've met a lot of great friends as a result.

It really IS a slippery slope isn't it! It's only been about 4 months for me but already I know I'm hooked

I'm working on 3 different collections: Donald Duck, Port Orleans/Dixie Landings and Disney Mountains (although I'm still not settled on that last one). I still know NOTHING about all the ins and outs of pins and trading but I am loving it!!!

If anyone has any ideas for a better 3rd collection that would be fantastic

Thanks guys :thumbsup2

I started collecting the pins in 1999 with the DS Millenium set. Before that I collected the Disney beanies, Mickey plush, figurines, snowglobes and movie litho sets.

Just thought I'd let you all know that I've just got the villains bowling pin set in the mail :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: ooo and an LE YOAMD donald and daisy pin :D :cool1: :cool1: woohoo

i remember buying the original lanyard series in 2000 and i think that is when it started for my family

Downtown Disney, one darn Jeweled Evil Queen/Snow Queen pin. I swore that was it, then I thought I had lost that pin, nearly had a heart attack, and next thing you know it all went downhill.

It was when my parnets took me my sister and then DBF (now DH) to Disneyland in 2002 and with our trip package we got the lanyerds and 2 pins and we saw all the cute pins they had in the stores. So we bought some. Then when we went back in 2005 for my honeymoon DH and I got into buying/wareing them. And we really got hooked on trading them in 2006. Now I'm so stinken excited to go in a few weeks to trade again!!

For me, it started in 2002. We picked up a couple of pins during the trip, nothing major, but it was the start of it for us. I decided that it was cheaper to buy a few pins than it was for us to buy lots of big figs and art pieces, so for our "budget trip" in 2003, I got us into pin trading. With about 1000 pins in our collection and about 400 traders in house right now, I think it's safe to say that it's not a hobby that is very budget trip friendly. :lmao:

We still collect art pieces at Disney too. It seems that there is always room for something else new and cool. :thumbsup2
