I need to know what I can do to strip color from my hair. Without to much damage.

I was REALLY blonde before and I colored my hair last night and it is now some AWFUL shade of dark that I just hate.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

do not do it at home. wait 2 weeks and go back to your hairdresser and start getting highlights put in. The at home kits will kill your hair and it is too soon to go back. You need the 2 weeks for your hair to rest. For the time being get a clairfying shampoo and start washing daily.

 2 weeks - But I hate it.

My Mom and DH both say that it really looks good but I DON'T LIKE IT! :guilty:

Yeah most hairdressers say 2 weeks. I just went dark brown and in less than 2 weeks of normal washing I am down to light brown. Give Prell or Herbal Essance a try for now and schedule an appt. My hairdresser gave me the same advice if I didn't like mine because she didn't want to damage the hair. Trust me it will fade fairly fast if you were blonde before.

I'd definitely see a professional. Hair isn't as tough as we want to treat it. Stripping it will cause more damage and you could end up with even a worse color than you are thinking with uneven results. Was your hair colored blonde before you applied the darker color? If your DH and mom say it looks good, then try to focus on that even though you don't like it. It will fade. It is always risky to go from blonde to brown...always. Even when people want to darker it is always shocking to them at least at first.
Be very careful with whatever you chose to do. Please. Right now, you have have enter the world of corrective color and if it was me, I would go to a specialist who does nothing but color all day long.

This just happened to me a month ago. I was blonde and I went to my hairdresser. She made it brown w/ very few blonde highlights. I hated it but everyone else loved it. I went back the next day and my hairdresser put in a lot more highlights. I liked it so much better. Now the brown faded so much I am totoally back to what I started with.

I would not strip it either. I'd go to a salon and have them fix it. You don't want to damage it. Moral is I';m sticking with what I like.

Thank you everyone.

I think it was just such a shock to me. I will just leave it alone and hope it fades fast with a lot of washing. :guilty:

i just wanted to second this. i went to a corrective colorist who supposedly knew what they were doing about 10 years ago with a similar problem and i ended up with a problem that was way worse than what i was trying to fix. my hair was really not the same for a long time after that.

A truer fact was never spoken. Us blondes have a tough time with anything darker, even though we might fantasize otherwise. I have far too many experiences like the OP to know its not even a consideration again. I think I finally learned my lesson. :p

I agree, best to wait a few weeks and then go back to a trusted professional. And once you find that person, never ever lose her. Follow her through thick and thin, even when she becomes a little out of your price range. I know from what I speak, trust me. :p

I am so glad to hear I am not the only one with this problem. :teeth:

I figured the blonde would cover well. :confused3 WRONG!!!

head and shoulders - type shampoo usually works well if you want to get rid of a color!

DH just called and asked if anyone said anything about my hair. I said "Nope - which can't be good". I guess it means nobody can say anything nice so they are not going to say anything at all. :confused3

It will fade quick if you use a detergent based cleanser. Someone mentioned Prell... good idea.

Or dish soap, for real.

And you do NOT have to wait 2 weeks to put highlights in, although I would go somewhere and get them done. Dont do them yourself.

I don't think I am up to doing the highlights myself anyways. My skills appear to be limited.

My DD had a strip on pink that we needed to get out. Nothing worked at the salon, nothing... BUT the pool stripped it right to blonde! :cool1: :Pinkbounc

With my luck the pool would turn my hair a lovely shade of green. :rotfl:
And I am not sure which color would be worse at this time. :scratchin

I have heard about mixing laundry detergent with your regular shampoo to make it fade faster. Please be careful about stripping and highlighing hair. I've had my hair turn to gum because I tried to strip a black out of it (it was done at a salon). It was HORRIBLE! I just recently had to cut it short because the split ends where it had broken off just kept riding up the shaft and where in various lengths all over my head (the whole stripping accident happened over three years ago!). It sucked!
I was told to never use home dye kits EVER again. Well I DID use one last year. It was supposed to be dark brown but came out as BLUE BLACK! Now, this color looks good on me so it wasn't too bad but I wasn't expecting it. However, if it makes you feel any better, after a week it had faded to dark brown. Then it faded some more and you could tell where my highlights were.
Recently I had my stylist put in dark chocolate lowlights, over my highlights. Well those have faded and you can tell where the highlights were. I need to go back and get them lowlighted again.

There is a product out there called Color Oops. It does not strip your hair, it removes the darkness. I used it a few weeks ago when I did the exact same thing and I love the color of my hair. I did not have to re-color my hair. You can do it tonight and look great tomorrow.

Good Luck!!

Don't try and fix it yourself, you might fry your hair and then you'll have to cut it off real short on top of the bad color.

I bet it doesn't look as bad as you think, post a pic we'll let you know.;)

I second going to the salon for highlights. It will be a pretty contrast and lighten your hair. I love my blonde hair and will never go darker again.
