my husband just got the job offer of a lifetime, and we may be moving to connecticut, most likely the greenwich area. we have the house picked out, we told the kids. i dont think its really set in for the twins yet, but dd13 is taking it really hard. is there any Greenwich area disers or someone who knows the community? We know that our favorite choice (well, based on the website) is Greenwich Country Day, but dont really know much about it. we also cant seem to find a figure skating club for the girls (and trust me, they DONT want to give it up.) DH is sealing the deal now as i type, so scratch the "maybe moving".

Congratulations! We have lots of friends who went to GCD - very great school. I've spent lots of time in that area and it is beautiful! Just take them down to Greenwich Ave. to shop and they'll fall in love. :) I'm not sure about skating rinks, but one of our old friends who lives in Darien is a skating teacher now - I think she teaches in the city though. I haven't talked to her in a while but if I do I'll ask her for you!

Congratulations on the move!
I'm in eastern CT, but I stay in the Greenwich/ West Greenwich area when I visit NYC. It's a beautiful area! :goodvibes

As you can tell from my user name I am from CT. I grew up 10 min away from Greenwich (but moved a little further north when I got married). My mom grew up in Gwch, lots of family still lives there...it has changed a lot. It is very affluent.

You will have NO problem finding a place for your child to skate. There is Dorothy Hamill Skating rink in Gwch, altough I have have not been there in many years, that was the place to be when I was a kid...also Terry Connors Skating rink is in Stamford but I haven't been there before - I know it's been there forever - here is the link - http://www.tcrink.com

There is a HUGE newer skating rink in Stamford - larger city one town over - he is the link www.stamfordtwinrinks.com

Where do you live now?

we live in st.cloud, minn. now
thanks everyone for all the help!
My dd6's LOVE the new house and dd13...is just horribly sad to move. She has a great group of friends (and a suprisingly mom-approved boyfriend) that she has to leave. We flew out yesterday and the house is great, GCS seems friendly, and knowing they had Greenwich FSC made dd13 smile (only time yet in ct, but still.) and the cute shops are to die for. Even though we will miss home, this sounds like its going to work out. (once dd13 gets out of the moving-funk) but I'm glad the twins are adjusting well. They already found a group of girls in the neighborhood and played for hours yesterday, and the moms got along great as well. Are there any good restaurants that you would sugggest? And we also need a furniture store, if there are any IKEAs nearby that would be a godsend.

Welcome to CT!

There is an IKEA in New Haven.

I am sure your dd will fall in love in time. Just remind her that she is super close to White Plains & can go to Disney from there.

that's funny someone mentioned white plains, because I'm sending the iPhone report from the mall right now. My daughter is in LOVE with this mall. The mothership (abercrombie and coach) is calling her home. Were taking a tour of GCS with DD13 tomorrow at 4 so she can get more of a chance to see the middle school part. She seems to have warmed up to the town and now is on her way out of coach (probably to ask me for the credit card, oh dear LOL) were heading back home on Wednesday to make all the last minute arrangements for the big move. Any more fun places or tips about the town would be great. My dd13 is telling me to ask you where the kids hang out and what kind of fashions are "hot" here. Oh, the joys of a teenage girl.

Congratulations, I actually live in Norwalk but worked in Greenwich for a while. Have no worries - Greenwich is really a great place to live and GCS, from what I hear is a very good school. As for skating i'm not sure if Greenwich has a Skate Rink but my son is a Hockey player at Stamford Twin Rinks which is about 10 minutes from Greenwich. They have a great skating program there. The kids are mostly wearing Abercrombie clothes....Good Luck!

Good luck with your move! We are at the other end of the state, but there is lots to do in CT, I hope your family enjoys it :)
