I am planning on making a ham for dinner tomorrow night when some friends are coming over. A long time ago, I knew of a recipe where you scored the ham, put the cloves into it, and poured a can of pop over it and baked it. Does anyone have more specific details such as what kind of ham this would work for, what kind of pop, and how long to bake? Or, do you have an alternative method for ham, like brown sugar or something like that. I'm looking for any and all input. Thanks in advance!

I used to make a ham like that when I was a kid. I used either orange or cherry pop. Or, I have also used brown sugar mixed with pineapple juice over the ham.

Pouring anything sweet like that over the ham makes the pan a mess to clean up, tho'.

I like to drizzle honey over the top of the ham. Next, rub in brown sugar so, it's nice and messy. Then, I place sliced pineapples on top and secure with toothpicks. Yum!

Any type of ham will do, it all depends on if you like plain, maple cured, smoked, etc. I just get a plain semi boneless ham. I never put anything on it, I like mine plain. MY MIL does the pop, she actually uses gingerale though and mixes it with brown sugar...it is way too sweet for me cooked like that.

Now brown sugar with pineapple juice sounds like it would take some of the sweetness away. I've seen people do the pineapple slices laid over the ham or they use that red ham glaze stuff.

I trim the fat, put clove in, then boil 2 cups of water and add "gobs" of brown sugar and pour slowly over the ham.

When ham has in done, I boil about 3-4 cups of water, add more "gobs" of brown sugar, slice the ham, put in a cassorole dish and pour the joice in let sit at least an hour prior to serve.

I use mandarian oranges packed in light syrup or mix a solution of honey and orange juice.

Just Pour The Gingerale And Seal It With A Foil Bag, Makes It Really Juicy And Moist.
