 Hi Friends,

I just wanted to let you know that my mom's 70th birthday party was a BLAST!!! We were able to surprise my sister as well. She started reading the DCL postcard I had written out about my mom and I joining them on the May cruise. My sister only got about one quarter of the way through the postcard and she started crying, she had to have her daughter finish reading the note. Once we got through eating, opening gifts, and having some cake, the talk turned to our May cruise. As we were talking I asked my neice why she didn't schedule the 10am shuttle from the Radisson to the port. Teri said, "What, there is an earlier shuttle then 10:30?" Within minutes, Teri was on the phone with the Radisson and had our group of 12 put on the 10am shuttle, LOL!!! :woohoo:

I was so mad at myself yesterday. I forgot to take my digital camera with me, so I stopped at a Walmart on the way to the party and picked up a one-time use camera. I dropped the camera off at a CVS on the way home, I can pick up the pics and CD on Wednesday.

:wave2:

You have to wonder sometimes if physicians have found a new way to make money. A blood screen THEN the shot. The last time I got bloodwork done the physician wanted me to come into the office to discuss results. Why not tell me over the phone? He made an extra office visit out of it.

When I called the Health Department they definitely recommended Hep. A. I should have clarified neither the pediatrician NOR my doctor was sure if I should get it and recommended I call the Health Dept.

I wonder if it's a pain in the neck for physicians to order the serum? I don't know but I remember getting the same response years ago when I wanted the Hep. B series.

SamRoc, did your friend do the tour at Costa Maya or at Cozumel? While the ruins available at Cozumel look amazing, I don't think all of the travel time in the heat would be worth it.

Is anyone interested in linking our reservations so we are on the same dining rotation? We did this last August and it was a blast. It was great for the kids to see each other at dinner, and was a nice way to check in each evening.

Andy - sounds like a good time was had by all.

Hi Guys - I got Hep A vaccines for my entire family before the repo cruise and our doctor didnt stock them either - what we had to do is he wrote us a prescription and then we filled it at CVS and then went to him to administer it. Be warned its not covered by all insurance plans especially for adults. It cost me over $200 for my family... but it was worth the piece of mind. I have Aetna and they didnt cover it but someone else I spoke with had Cigna and they did cover it

I called my friend and asked her which ruins tour she took. She said Xcaret was the best with the underwater river, but it was Chichen itza where she got sick from the heat.(she was in a hotel in mexico last August) I got our vacation guides today, and am still not sure about which ruins tour to take. In Cozumel we have the choice of Tulum or Xcaret but they are both 7 hour excursions and in Costa Maya we have the choice of the kohunlich (6 1/2 hours) or chacchoben which is about 5 hours. My kids love history and I know they want to do at least one ruins tour, but can't decide which one will be the most impressive and also which will be doable in August with the heat.

Last week someone on the cruise board has asked about Tulum, and this is what I had posted:

Here are the pictures from our Cozumel day, including Tulum. http://www.brownfamilyvacations.com/html/cozumel.htm

You board a ferry directly from the ship, from a side door of the ship. There's a small plank you walk down, and step directly onto the ferry.

The ferry is relatively fast, and there are 2 levels of seating. There are tv's inside, but we couldn't hear them, and just as well since they weren't in English. lol They sold t-shirts on the ferry, as well as snacks, and on the return trip someone came around and sold jewelry. It wasn't the smoothest boat ride I'd ever been on, but all of us were fine, and I didn't see anyone on our particular ferry getting seasick. (My family takes Bonine {motion sickness medication} every single morning of the cruise anyway, so that might've helped us).

Once we got to the mainland of Mexico at Playa Del Carmen, we walked a few blocks through a small town, until we got to where the buses were parked. The buses were large, comfortable, and air-conditioned. We boarded the bus and the next stop was a small tourist gift shop where we could use the bathrooms, and shop. I guess we were there for about a half hour, then everyone got back on the bus.

We then arrived at Tulum. The bus let us off, then we boarded a colorful tram to take us to the entrance to the ruins. Our tour guide led us inside the walls of the ruins, over to a covered gazebo type of structure. There he explained about many of the carvings and markings that we'd be seeing, and what their significance were, to the Mayan people. Then we walked around with him for a while then we were able to walk around on our own, and at this point you can walk over to where the small beach to the Caribbean Sea was. He gave us a time frame for which to meet him back at the entrance. While waiting for everyone to get back, we were able to shop in a small area at the entrance.

Then we got on the bus, they handed out soda and beer, and Subway sandwiches, and that was basically it until we got back to Playa Del Carmen and got back on the ferry.

One more thing: During the entire bus ride to the ruins, which was at least an hour, the tour guide stood up at the front of the bus and gave us a lot of history and information about the Mayan people, their culture, the ruins, some myths, etc. He was great, and at the end of the tour we were very happy to tip him. We felt he had done a great job in providing the background info for this excursion.

Hi Everybody,

It is with great regret that I must "bail" on you guys. It was a tough decision but that Cat 3 was calling for the Westbound Repo once again!

Have A Fun and Safe Trip!

Will Miss You!

Janet: I'm sorry we won't be sailing together, but I know you'll have a wonderful time on the repo cruise next year!! :sunny: We had considered cancelling this cruise for the repo also, but DSs are older now and are interested in the castles of Europe, not the cities near the ports, so we'll be doing a land vacation there instead. I tried to talk DH into just us doing the repo, but he didn't go for it. ;)

Have fun on your cruise! :boat:

Here are our tentative plans for Costa Maya. My plan is to arrange directly through them. Is anyone else interested?

We invite you to join us in a journey from the myth of creation to the collapse of the great Maya civilization.

We will probably be doing this also in Costa Maya. Did you make your plans yet? We are a family of 4 and would love to do this as early as possible in the morning and get to the beach by noon. I think the heat might be too much for me walking around the ruins in the afternoon.

Hi everyone :wave2:

I just went through the last 25 pages and took down the names of those who had to cancel this cruise, and those who wanted to be added in, and I've made the changes in the first post, on the list of cruisers. Please take a look back to Page 1 and let me know if the list looks accurate. If you see someone listed who you know has cancelled, please let me know! :) Also, if I've mistakenly taken off a name, let me know that as well. I'll continue to read back through the thread even further, later when I have more time. :hourglass

Hope you're all having a good day, it's in the 60's here and really feels like spring :flower: :sunny:

I have not made plans yet. I think it would be great to get a bunch of folks together for it. I agree with the early start.

I sent an email today to chacchobenruins.com website. I asked If they could start a tour one hour after the ship docks in Costa Maya, will let you know what they say.

Thank you! I emailed them some time ago and he was very agreeable. I did not want to book too far in advance. I'll be waiting to see what the scoop is!

Since I was in Tampa last week, I haven't even kept up on the news at all. Today at work, everyone was talking about the "house". It's so exciting that Extreme Makeover was in Northeast Philly (about 7 minutes from where I live) to rebuild a home. They moved the bus around 2 pm and the street is still blocked off to traffic. Bright lights are surrounding the house, both back and front. The house is huge and looks out of place in the neighborhood. It's for the Py family and will be on TV late April or early May. It's nice to hear something good happening in Philly.

Hope all is well.

Thank You :cool1: :thumbsup2

I understand why people need to make the tough choice to sail or not sail, but I hope not too many more drop out.

I decided on this cruise based on the good vibes I got from this group when deciding on the Aug 19th cruise instead of an earlier Aug one.

Hi Bev,

I was watching the Fox29 news the other morning and I saw the Extreme Makeover Home Edition truck in the background. It's rather neat knowing it is so close to you. ;)
