This is inspired by another thread but am looking for advice/opinions:
I had my all my conf. #s and everything- all my ADRs were booked for months- and when I called to check on everything- my SCIFI ADR was missing. I gave them the conf# and she said - it had been cancelled- "By whom?" I asked. She said- "By you, of course." I told her that was a mistake. I did not cancel. She said it was completely overbooked so I was out of luck- I couldn't rebook. Then she said- "the good news is you have a reservation that same night at SCIFI at 7:00." She said my ressie had been cancelled when I made this new ADR at 7:00. Now I was really confused. I did not make that ADR. Then she looked at it and it was a different person with the same last name. (unusual last name) UGH, frustrating.

So my question is this: If I had never called to confirm- I would have just shown up at SCIFI at 5:00 with my conf. #, and would I have been turned away? I am thinking of doing that- just showing up- I made the ADR, I have my conf. #, I think they will seat us when they see it was the mistake of the 407-WDW-DINE CM. I will plan on a longer than average wait for our table and will prepare the kids that we may not get to eat there. What do you think- should I go or just forget about it?

This thread and others like it caused me to confirm all of my ADRs for December. Luckily, everything is O.K.

Hopefully, we will have no problems (i.e. mysterious cancellations) prior to our dining experiences.

I would say go ahead and try it.

None of the restaurants (except LeCellier) we ate at last month were overly busy when we arrived for our ADR's...and all of ours were for 5pm.

I don't think they will accomodate you unless your Conf. # shows up in their system. They may offer to let you wait to see if something comes available (unless there are already several people ahead of you). Also, you will more than likely end up with one of the tables in the back vs. one of the cars. If it were me, I'd just keep calling like mad to try for an ADR there...or possibly some place else. I know it doesn't seem very fair, but I'm sure there are actually people that know the number sequence and just make one up to try to use it. Good Luck! :goodvibes

Calypso- I don't know if it makes a difference but they can see my ADR- it is just marked cancelled. When I gave the number the CM confirmed all the details of my ADR and then was about to move on to the next ADR and then she said- "Wait, back-up. This reservation is cancelled." I don't know if the restauarnt sees the same thing the reservations people see or ir not.

I had the problem last year. Showed up at Crystal Palace, no ressie in system. I called Disney Dining on my cell and turns out the CM chose Coral Reef by mistake when making my ADR. (Alphabetical on the list in the computer). So, I explained the situation to the CM at Crystal Palace and they seated us immediately with apologies. Now, I can't say this would happen every time, but it never hurts to try. Usually Disney is very accomodating.

I would call back and speak to a superviser. Explain that somehow a cast member cancelled YOUR ADR when making an ADR for someone with the same last name, for the same restaurant, on the same night. Calmly and sweetly ask "How are you going to fix my ADR?"

I never did speak to a supervisor, maybe I will give that a try. I am not too worried about it at this point. There are ADRs that would be a major problem if they lost/canceled them- but all our really important ADrs are in tact so I am happy.
Oh - in case you were wondering- I am the OP - tenthousandvolts is my son. I have been posting as tenthousandvolts cause I was having trouble logging out and back in as cheapmom- but I finally figured it out!

I happened to confirm all of my October ADRs last month when I was calling to cancel our character breakfast at Cape May. Interestingly enough the CM told me I also had a character breakfast scheduled for that same morning at
Chef Mickeys. I was stunned - I never made a reservation for Chef Mickeys and yet this CM was telling me I had one. She canceled them both and then suggested that we go through the rest to be sure they were correct (which they were, thank goodness!).

So I had the opposite problem that you are talking about, but the lesson is the same. I know the CMs are busy, but if you've got your heart set on dining somewhere it can't hurt to re-confirm. In our case since other people are relying on the reservations I made, I feel responsible for making sure things are correct.

Good luck with your reservation - I hope it works out the way you want it to.

Yeah that second reservation was probably someone elses with the same name who is now going to show up at the restaurant wanting a seat lol.

I was thinking that exact same thing.

Good news- just got off with wdw-dine- I got an ADR- SCIFI has been booked up for a while now so I feel lucky. Not the time I wanted but I can work with this so I am happy. My DS9 (aka tenthousandvolts) is thrilled as this was his one request.

Well, we have a pretty unusual last name so if that's the case someone else in the family is going to WDW and hasn't told us about it! :teeth:

I felt awful about canceling it but I didn't know what else to do. The really weird thing is that they had it tied to my cell phone number rather than my home phone number... I dunno, maybe my subconscious called when I wasn't paying attention and made a reservation at Chef Mickeys? :lmao:

I never check my reservations - I call and make them and then I take the numbers with me.

I always make sure I have them - three times at 1900 Park Fare I have been shown as cancelled in the system and I just say, "no...I did not cancel any reservations." I have never been turned away.

This also happened at the Castle and I had my confirmation number and I was seated.

Also a couple of other times here and there but 1900 is the one I remember most.

Glad it worked out! :thumbsup2
