So two days after my first resale contract went to Disney for ROFR, I received a call from DVC direct sales. It was on a Saturday morning at 8:30 am, a bit too early for this night owl- LOL! I did attend a DVC sales presentation back in late July. In thinking about it, they shouldn't have had the phone number they called me on. Typically, I give out my "spam" number at things like that but I may have goofed up. The timing just seemed a bit weird. I kindly explained I couldn't get the math to work (to buy direct) and that I had a whole spreadsheet on it. However, I remained silent on the fact that I have a resale contract in play ($87/pt, 210 pts, BRV). He was persistent but seemed to be reading off a script.

Is this typical when buying resale or was it just a coincidence?

This happened to us but not a phone call. A mailing. It was targeted to us specifically and also too coincidental.

The mailings and emails promoting direct are fairly common. Also, Disney keeps good records on methods of contact that you've agreed to for the "family of Disney companies." You may have filled out one of these forms when you got an AP or went on a cruise, etc., which also gave permission to other aspects of the Disney company. My guess is that resale customers are being contacted in the manner in which they've approved for company contact previously. Also, I'm in California where these things are monitored a little more than in some other states. Disney has different contact scripts for some states (such as California) than for other states.

Anecdotally, I had the same thing happen to me when I was going through ROFR to sell a contract.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney uses contracts changes as a trigger for contact.

Never happened to me. Sold and bought a lot on resale…

I thought it was interesting that he didn't mention any incentives for direct purchase. I thought I saw someone on here say they got direct purchase points for $146 pp after incentives and CC % back....that seems like a pretty good deal.
