Call Blocking!

Does anyone have the call blocking service from BT? I am being plagued by people phoneing me up and trying to sell me stuff i.e mobile phones. From what it reads on the website that it only blocks caller withheld numbers and most of mine come through as either international or with a number showing these days! It's really driving me mad, i was having a really nice soak in the bath this pm and the phone rang ( causing me to soak the hall and bedroom carpet) it was some chap calling from Three Mobile who must of been in India or thereabouts and one day last week i was out for the pm and came back to 8 missed calls all from either international or a funny number. Sorry for the rant! any ideas?

I dont have the BT call blocker, but I am registered with TPS(Telephone Prefrence Service), a friend of mine told me about these last year, its completly free to register and after 28 days all marketing calls and the like should stop. It does work as since I registered I have not had any at all.

If you do get them more than 28 days after registering then be sure to find out where they got your number and point out to them that you are TPS registered and that it is actually illegal to call you as part of a telemarketing exercise

Then be sure to report them to the TPS so they they get fined!!

Another vote here for the TPS. Have had it for a couple of years now, got fed up with sales calls or calls where seemingly there was no one at the end of the line when call centres dialed out to more lines than they had operators. Also the advantage of TPS over BT's own call blocker is that it still allows hospitals and banks etc. to get in touch with you if need be. These organisations do with hold their numbers.

We have had TPS for a couple of years now - love it! However, we have been having calls from abroad now in recent months. The most regular is from USA :- a taped voice telling us we've been chosen for something or other.

The others are from Indian call centres selling mobile services.

We do not want to block calls from either of these countries as we receive genuine calls from both - so guess we have to hope they get tired of calling.

TPS is an excellent service ~ We've had it for a couple of years now. It's great because you no longer get those annoying sales calls just as you are sitting down to dinner

Call blocking can be awkward, because not all numbers a witheld for sinister reasons; a lot of businesses will withold their numbers so that people can't call back on a private line.

When I worked in a box office, a lot of customers lost their orders because we weren't able to get through to them on the phone.
