Anybody have any clue what is going on with this ride??? We will be in DL 10/15-10/19. For months the refurb date has been 10/2-10/5, and looking today is has changed to 10/9-10/12...anybody know if these are concrete dates and what they are doing??? DH has 2 favorite rides, the Matterhorn and California Screamin - if he misses out on both I will be buying a lot of beer!!!

Nothing is ever set in concrete when it comes to ride closures.

I haven't heard that anyone knows for sure what this closure is doing.

My guess, and it is purely a guess, is that maybe they are decorating it up for Halloween. The first Halloween Treat party is 10/13, and according to all the info on the party, CA Screamin' will be one of the rides that is open.

I'll be there 10/13-15 and will try to do a quick post as to whether or not it's open then.

It was on the disneyland website saying should be back up on the 5th of October :) BUT now its not even on the referb schedual anymore on the website. So that could be a good thing.

they could be setting up the new soundtrack and maybe night lights for rockin california screams which is set to debue in january

Mouseplanet says:
"closed October 2 - 5. Everybody was expecting a long maintenance closure so this information is suspect at this time and will most likely eventually be changed to show a multi-month closure."

In general I understand they are planning to change the Screamin soundtrack, as the one they have been using for 5 years (since Screamin opened) was not specially designed for Screamin. On top of that, it appears they are planning to go to two sound tracks where at night a different more energetic (i.e., "Rockin") soundtrack is used.

Also as noted by others, a lengthy refurb for Screamin has been expected for a long time.

They definately could be getting ready for Rockin' California Screamin'. However on MousePlanet it talks about a new darkride that's going to be installed for 2008 called "Midway Madness." The ride is supposedly based off of "Toy Story." The site also talks about many of the shops, games, and eating places being taken out for this ride. The fate of the Maliboomer is unknown at this time as well.

SWEET! That now gives me an excuse to go back to DL in 2008. I was gonna go next year to check out the nemo ride, but :) hahaha if I wait till 2008, I will have Nemo, Midway madness, and the newest installment of Pirates, after the referb next year when they put in the robotronics... Will and Miss Swan.

They're redoing "Pirates" again? When is it shutting down, and what are they adding?

You know the more I'm thinking about Pirates getting another facelift the more I'm not happy. I understand the "need" to tie more of the movie in, but it just seems like the ride is beginning to lose its "originality." I mean it was one of the last attractions that Walt, himself, personally worked on.

I don't know, just call me sentimental. I wish that there were so many attractions still at the park that have been taken out. The People Mover, the sky buckets (sorry, I forgot the actual name), Circle-Vision 360, the Keel Boats, etc. But, I guess it's just one of those things.

you would have thought they would have just finished pirates all at once huh? :confused3
I suspect there is something that ties in with movie #3 that they could not have added last year without getting ahead of themselves. It is a huge bummer for those who visit DL in the spring time though.

Walt himself said that DL would never be complete. At one level I agree with you. Those of us who love DL as it is may never want it to change. And POTC is my all-time favorite ride. But I have four boys who love the POTC movies, and I know that the changes will make the ride more relevant for them for the next 20-40 years. So as long as DL does not do damage to the experience (and they haven't so far IMO) then I see the ride changes as a smart move on DL's part.

Yeah, they haven't really "damaged" the ride. I liked how they carefully planted Jack Sparrow in the ride. It still has the original "feel" to it. I just hope that it remains that way.

Btw, I heard a rumor that they were going to install the octopus-like thing into the ride. What's the name of it? The Krackel? Anyway, is this rumor true?

Haven't heard that one.
