California Screamin' vs. WDW coasters

I can enjoy all WDW coasters expect Rockin Roller Coaster. That requires recovery time for me. How does California Screamin' compare to WDW attractions? I'd love to enjoy California Screamin' with my teens.

I found Screamin' to be less intense than RnR, but more intense than most other WDW and DLR coasters. I'd put below RnR, but above Everest, on my intensity scale because it does have an inversion. I can ride Everest (and most other WDW/DLR coasters), but I can't do RnR or Screamin' anymore because they make me dizzy.

If you can't do RnR, I would (unfortunately) skip Screamin. It has a very similar takeoff and feel.

I think my problem is with the initial takeoff or to many quick turns. I haven't had trouble with a local coaster that includes upside down loops. Space mountain is fine. RnR just kills me.

For me, Screamin' is much more intense than Space Mountain.

In fact, having just gotten a Knott's pass, I feel like Screamin is more intense than many of their coasters too. I always feel nauseated after I ride Screamin', especially after the loop, the bunny hills, and the last few circles before the ride ends. I've been skipping it for a while now.

Screamin' has a very similar take-off to RnR, so if that is what causes you problems with RnR, I would probably forgo Screamin'. That being said, you can see the Screamin' launch before you get in line, so you might be able to assess it for yourself if you want to try it.

Screamin' does have the same type of launch as does RnR but I don't feel that it is as intense as RnR. Maybe it is because it is outside and you can see where you are going or because it has the hill in the middle where it slows down completely.

I agree with Figment that you should watch the launch and the cars going around the coaster first and see if it might be something you would be willing to try.

Hopefully you can handle it as it is a great coaster to try

SREAMIN is much better than RNR . It is very smooth and outdoors. If you like Everest then SCREAMIN is easy...

Both use the same launch system and pull down (over shoulder) restraint. CS is much longer and smother than RRC, and does not have a corkscrew.

I have rode both. I agree CS much more smoother than RnR. RnR makes me feel like I need to see a chiropractor after riding it. Not after riding CS

There's only one way to find out. Take and advil and do it once. If everything is OK, do it again! If it's not OK, the ibuprofin will kick in about 10 minutes later.

It is a really fun coaster to try. California SREAMIN is also a tad more roomy.. I am tall and the RNR restraints are not quite tall enough for my shoulders... Go on it twice. After that you will be a pro....

I asked this in another thread, and SplashMo kind of just elaborated some...but in terms of size of the seats, harnesses, etc...how does it compare to RNR? I ask because my brother is a big, big guy (spent a few years trying to make it in NFL), and is about 6'8" and 380ish lbs. He can ride RNR at WDW w/ relative ease, despite his size...so I'm curious about Screamin' and how people think it compares for someone who is so tall and so broad-shouldered and broad-chested?

I must have a long upper torso... On RNR I have to scoot forward in the seat for the restraints to even to close. On SCREAMIN I merely cross my feet at the ankles and I am good to go.

Although at the same time, watching the takeoff doesn't do it justice in my opinion. I always felt like it feels waaaaaay faster when you're actually on it than it looks from the boardwalk.

Both RnR and California Screamin' have a "catapult launch" - you go from zero to more than 50 mph in a few seconds. They're pretty intense (that's why I love them!). And both have at least one inversion. So if you can't do RnR, you probably won't like California Screamin'.

I love CS and don't love RnR- not sure why. I was pleasantly surprised how smooth CS is.

Screamin is way better than RnR! I found RnR to be too jarring and bumpy. (not unlike WDW's Space Mountain in that way) Not smooth at all. I tried it twice just to be sure and I was sad that I didn't like it. I can't figure out why so many people like it and how come they don't notice the roughness. However, I LOVED EE! We rode that quite a few times and I think I like it better than Screamin.

Any time I'm afraid of a ride, I just remind myself it hasn't killed anyone yet, I take a deep breath..... and I go.

Lots of comments about RnR being rough. I'm surprised by that. It has always seemed like a really smooth coaster to me. I have arthritis in my neck and have no trouble on either of these. Now Matterhorn and Space are another matter........
