Yes, on the DxDDP you can order most of the sushi offerings as appetizers (I think there are 2 that are more expensive that are not available on the dining plan).
Last September we were on the DxDP and ordered the California Roll and a Roasted Chicken Flatbread for appetizers, Teriyaki Filets for entrees, and the Butterscotch Creme Brulee and Valrhona Chocolate Cake for dessert
There is really only 2 items that cannot be ordered as an appetizer with the Deluxe plan. The "snake on the grass" and "Yoshie's Platter" are excluded. They are considered as "entrees" if you really want to order it.
California roll is an excellent choice as your starter, but I absolutely love the new "Crab and Beef" roll(it has lump crab meat and sashimi type filet of beef) YUMMY!
We've eaten here many times so I've had several things here (we do not do dining plan very often). The menu changes often so many of the things I've had are no longer on the menu. We enjoy the sushi; my personal fave is to have the Snake in the Grass as my entree. The tuna 3 ways is my favorite sushi appetizer.
For the first coarse, the goat cheese ravioli is pretty good. I used to get fois gras here but WDW no longer serves it.
I agree with MickeyNicki that the pork/polenta is the best main course there. I was extremely disappointed with the beef filet I had, it's probably the worst steak I've had anywhere at WDW. I remember also having duck and being disappointed with that too.
I prefer to get the cheese board for my dessert but I've had some of their sweet treats (and I think the cheese board is better). None of the sweets I've had appear on the current menu.
