I have heard great things about California Grill and would like to go, but exactly how expensive is it? On Disney.com it says over $90 a person for dinner...is this true??
ITA why put cherries on the chocolate ?! its like some supermarket shelf box of chocolate candies that some relative buys you for Christmas - the chocolate with liquid cherry centre yuck!!!!
only 2 things prevent me eating at Cali Grill -
1 - appetizers - rest of my family dont do sushi or goat cheese, or salad
2 - desserts, better desserts elsewhere....
I would love to eat here - the entrees and wine list look fantastic, and I am sure it is an excellent restaurant just doesnt fit in with the rest of my familys tastes.. Also there is no kids appetizer on the dining plan here whereas most other TS restaurant have kids appetizer.
We just ate there last week on the DDP (It took 2 TS credits). We each ordered an appetizer, entree and dessert. Our Total was $260 for 3 people. If we didn't have free dining, I never would have ordered so much food. If you are going for just dinner, and share a dessert, it would be much more affordable.
You also are given the opportunity to go back later in the evening to watch the fireworks from the roof of the Contemporary. It's has quite the view!
That dessert was my favorite of our entire trip!! I have been craving it for days! The chocolate cake is just sitting on top of a little bit of cherry sauce, which I have to say was delicious. I even took a picture of it!
I looked at the menu and what I would order is very affordable. I got scared when I read that on Disney.com! I won't be ordering that much food, just the main meal. I didn't want to pay $90 a person! Plus, I'm a vegetarian.
Another question...Has anyone ordered the Cali Grill Cheese Selections? I found it on the menu and would like some opinions about what it is exactly and how it is served. Thanks!
California Grill Cheese Selections - Choice of any three cheeses for $11.00 or choose all five for $16.00 The Selection of Cheeses includes Mezzo Secco: a pale gold cheese with firm texture and enjoyed with honeycomb, Abbaye de Bel'loc: rich in butterfat, flavorful & smooth like caramel and pairs well with fig cake, Queso de Mano: a robust, nutty cheese with herbal undertones, Marcona almonds compliment this cheese, Bandage Wrapped Cheddar: nutty & creamy with a developed tang that goes well with apple chutney, Echo Mountain Blue: clear, crisp flavor with a hint of goat's milk and to be enjoyed with pear paste.
I just got our reservations for California Grill and at the perfect time! They only had a few slots left, so I was so happy to get them!! My Mom was so excited when I told her! My Dad & her ate their on their Disneymoon and it was much different then! She can't wait to see it now. My Mom said it use to be called "Top of the World" or something like that back when it first opened. She said they had "big band" singers there and stuff at that time. I can't wait for her to see it now and for us to get to go! I have never been!
You'll love it - the bill for my wife and I was just over $300 before tip for the two of us - but that included appetizer, entree, dessert and wine - the wine is where the prices can really accelerate.

This dessert is what used to be called the Chocolate Lava cake at the Flying Fish. As a chocolate lover myself, I have to say that this dessert did not appeal to me. Maybe Cali Grill's is better. I would prefer raspberry to cherries with chocolate.
It strikes me as strange that the CG menu always says that it changes weekly. I suppose they add a new wrinkle every week based on what's available, but the same items have been on the menu for years in slightly different preparations and/or descriptions. At least the "oak fired beef filet" is served with something else. Last time we dined there it was just a piece of meat for the same price. You just can't beat the view if you're lucky enough to get a table by the window.
