California Grill is worth the hype. We had an 8:50 ADR 2/9 and it was excellent. We were seated promptly at a corner table overlooking the castle - what can I say - we were off to a great start. The CG was crowded - and also very loud. Between the open kitchen and the design itself the noise level is pretty high so be prepared. Our server didn't seem real familiar with the menu but he did fine. We chose a Russian River chardonnay (Bear something) because we had enjoyed chardonnays from that region before. This one however, was so thin and light it was almost like a sav blanc. The waiter graciously took the bottle back and we settled on Rodney Strong chardonnay. I order my food in the way I would like it server but our server took it upon himself to serve us our shared salad before our apps. Oh well - I am in Disney so who cares. So we started with a shared salad of the Golden and Candy Stripe Beets. Excellent. My DH had the spicy sensation on the recommendation of our server. It was excellent....but way too big for an app. DH took it back to the Poly and enjoyed it the next day. I had the Hudson Valley Fois Gras. I love fois gras but it takes a delicate touch to prepare correctly. CG does it well. For our entrees I had the Black Grouper and DH had the Pork Tenderloin. Both were exceptional. DH finished with the apple tart. All and all a memorable dinner that we both very much enjoyed! A+
Ohana's
Arrived for our ADR on time and I told the host that we would be happy to wait for a window table. He seemed relieved that we were willing to wait. Got some excellent drinks at Tambu and waited about 15 minutes. Our table was ok - but it was right along the walkway and the performer and 50 children were behind us the whole time. My mother has trouble hearing so she was completely out of the loop the whole dinner because she couldn't hear us. But this is O'hana's and the kids had a ball. I asked our server if we could wait a few moments in between courses. Apparently at Disney this request is ignored. That would be my only complaint about O'hana's - they literally give you no time to catch your breath between courses. The food was excellent. I loved the apps and the salad. Unfortunately, by the time all that meat was arriving I was slowing down. I had the steak and the flavor was wonderful and it was very tender. DH tried everything and he thought the pork was the best. Potato and vegetables were great. B+ for food.
Kona
Best drinks in WDW. Pretty much the only place that knows how to make a good manhattan. Started with the duck pot stickers - nothing outstanding but good. Split the Kona salad with DH - excellent. Mom had the crab cake app. We ended up finishing it for her - very good. We all had the Prime Rib. Excellent. Cooked to perfection, tender, great portion. One of our better dinners in WDW. A
Counter service did Columbia House. Very Good as always. Tried Back Lot Express for the 1st time. Best counter service in MGM so far (not hard to do). Grilled turkey and cheese is great!
