If anyone knows, I was wondering if:

You can go to the California Grill lounge when you're not actually eating at the restaurant itself? And if you can order desserts from there?

For our upcoming trip, we'd like to visit there for dessert and drinks, but dinner is a bat too fancy (and expensive!) for our tastes. Thanks!

You can if they let you! Which is to say, you have to check in at the 2d floor reception area. Let them know that you would like to have a seat at the bar or the lounge and have a glass of wine or cocktails and some dessert. They may call up to see if the bar area is mobbed. If it is, you probably will not be let up, or will have to wait. Bottom line is that the host/hostess has discretion in allowing you up. So it helps to dress well, be polite, make it sound as if it will be in their economic interest to let you up, and cross your fingers. If they think that you are just trying to cop a spot for the fireworks by getting a glass of water and a $6.00 dessert, you have less of a chance than if you are going to use the bar/lounge area for a bigger bar tab. There is only so much room up there, and they want to use it in a way that is most profitable for them. Perfectly understandable. Here's a trick. When you go to check in, pick up the wine list and look it over. Talk amongst yourselves (out loud) and mention that you'd really like to get a bottle of this or that.:cool2:

To have dessert you would need to make an adr just as you would if you were eating a full meal.

But yes you can go and have just dessert and a drink, just need to make a ressie.

Have a good time!!

Not if you plan to sit at the bar. The bar is "space available" seating. I have done it many, many times. I know I'm cute and all, but I can't believe that they are doing this favor just for me.

Yes, you can. And yes, you can do so without a reservation if there is space available. It doesn't hurt to make a reservation, though. What we've done in the past is make a reservation, then ask if we can sit in the lounge rather than the restaurant once we're brought up.

This is not the case if you intend to sit at the bar or lounge. Unless the second floor has been notified that the bar/lounge is completely full, you will be allowed to go up without a reservation. I've done it numerous times. It is possible to order from the full menu at the bar/lounge, including desserts.

The closer you get to fireworks time, the more likely it will be that the bar and lounge are crowded and the more difficulty you may have finding seats IF you are allowed to go up.

Great tips - thanks for the advice. Definitely sounds like you've had a bit of experience with it! ;)

And thanks everyone else for the tips, I will check if there are any reservations available for when we're looking to go.
