California Grill Flatbread

Has California Grill changed its menu? Is it no longer offering the flatbread as an appetizer?

at last report the flatbread was off the menu due to damage to the oven used to prepare them, but they apparently haven't come back. Could be menu change, could be they haven't had the oven repaired yet.

Let's hope that it's just the oven--those flatbreads are one of the menu highlites.
This must be some special oven to be out of commission for so long

when we were there in march the waitress told us she wasn't sure if and when they were coming back. The new chef is experimenting with new things and might not be bringing them back. She told us it had nothing to do with the oven (not sure if this is true or not).

I so agree. The flatbreads were so good, so varied. Someone in our family always ordered one.

Without the flatbreads, California Grill would move from being our must do dinner to just another signature which would join the rotation.

We are dining there for the first time in June and have been dying to try the flatbreads...I hope they bring them back or I will seriously maim DH for making me cancel our Oct 08 ressie we had!

We ate dinner there on easter Sunday and there is no more flatbread. The waitress told us that they have a new chef and he changed the menu. We were very dissapointed as the flatbread is one of the reasons we love Cal Grill. Many other changes as well, the filet which we used to love now has a terriyaki sauce which was not very good. We stillenjoy the atmosphere and the fireworks view but the menu changes has caused us to reconsider going back.

I agree with BCV23--California Grill will probably now join our ratation list as well.
Flatbreads are an excellent appetizer and good to share as well. So many variations that the sky is the limit on creativity. Taking them off the menu completely (when they always used to have at least two different selections) makes no sense at all.
A bonehead decision.

Completely agree!! Menu updates here and there I understand. Taking off a signature dish, even if it's just an "appetizer" is a HUGE mistake. We always looked forward to splitting one or two with dinner. Major disappointment!

Has anyone been to CG in the last few days to know if the flatbreads are back yet?

Really hoping they aren't permanently off the menu; we have an ADR for there in a little over 2 weeks.

They are making a major mistake if they do not bring back the flatbreads. They were so good. They were a big part of our dining experience at California Grill. When we had the fig and cheese one last fall it was fantastic. BRING THEM BACK !!!!

I ate at CG the day of the fire in March and was shocked that the flat breads were not on the menu (I hadn't heard about the fire yet, of course). After begging and begging our waiter for more information he told us about the fire - I wasn't sure if I believed him so I texted my dad who went on-line and said that it was true, there had been a fire at the CG that afternoon. Before we left, I asked the waiter how long it would take to repair the flatbread oven, and he said it could be a couple of months because of the damage done from the fire, and that they were very close to not being able to open the restaurant at all for the month of March.... I really don't think they will keep the flat breads gone forever; their absence was the first thing I noticed as soon as I sat down and I'm sure they have been bombarded with questions since the fire. After all, the first time I asked about them that night, the answer I got was that they weren't on the menu.... Only after begging for more information did the waiter tell me about the fire.

I'd lean towards not, but I'm sure Disney doesn't want their servers getting into the whole story with guests. I suspect that we'll see the flatbreads back as soon as Disney feels it is cost-effective to repair the oven, which might be a while if bookings continue to be low.

Had dinner at CG for the first time on 5-5, and asked about the flatbreads, as they were not on the menu. The "unofficial" response was:

1. Fire damaged the oven
2. Oven was unique to CG, so not something that could be replaced quickly
3. Revenue is up at CG since flatbreads left the menu, so will they return after oven is repaired/replaced??

(the sushi was outstanding!!)

i was bummed to not see it on the menu as an appetizer too!!! i ended up getting this beef and noodle dish with the strangest tasting sauce.
my DH's salad had anchovies in it too. flatbread would've been nice.

Skunk: I would have liked to know how your source would explain how the flatbreads leaving had anything to do with "revenue" being up. An odd statement since if any restaurant is always busy, it's California Grill.

And that must have been some very special oven to have been unique only to California Grill!!!
