California Grill Dress Code?

We are booked for a dinner at CG in September. Do they really enforce a dress code here? We don't plan on dressing like slobs, but we will most likely be coming straight from the parks like everyone else with shorts and flip flops.

I was there last Monday..sadly they are not enforcing a dress code. I think they say no tanks and cut offs? We saw folks in shorts, jeans and t-shirts.

The dress code does not address footwear. You are not allowed to wear tanks or hats (on men), no bathing suits, no ripped/torn clothing and nothing with offensive graphics.

Although business casual is suggested, it's been some time since it was enforced.

My dh wore a golf shirt and a pair of shorts. I asked the CM at the CG check in desk and was told that was what they suggested under "business casual" (with a little Disney parks thrown in, I guess). She did say they prefer not to see t-shirts, tanks and cut-off shorts. The night we went people were fairly dressed up---I had a casual skirt and top on (the best I could muster with a last minute decision to eat there)---but many women were in the dressy category; the men were a little more casual overall, many in shorts but again, in golf-style shirts. HTH

If you want to feel comfortable there, I would suggest dressing up a little. It's not really a park-wear kind of place, even if some people dress that way.

I had a pair of dress slacks and nice top and DBF had a polo and dress pants. But there were people there in jeans, but polo shirts which I thought was kind of odd since when you make the ADR you are told it's business casual and jeans are IMHO not business casual. That said we had a great table, with a view of the castle for the fireworks that night. We were celebrating my 50th birthday 'Disney' style. I even still have some of the Mickey head confetti.

I agree with everyone that's posted here. It's a very fun restaurant to dress up for. I wore a fun dress and my boyfriend wore a collared shirt with white pants. While sandals are just fine, I agree I'd freshen up. If you bring a backpack into the parks, you could even throw in a sundress and a button down shirt.

I didn't find that it was enforced. I've been there a few times and while each time I stuck to dress code, I definitely saw people dressed in shorts and flip flops!

Actually shorts ("dress shorts") are part of the stated dress code. And as noted by Pakey, the dress code does not even mention footwear.
So folks in shorts and flip-flops were within the accepted dress code.

its not enforced, but i wouldnt wear what i wear to the parks there.

DH wears nice shorts and a collared polo , i usually wear a nice cotton sundress

We always go back to the hotel before dinner, freshen up and then hit the parks again after dinner

I don't really pay attention to what other people are wearing unless it's really inappropriate (like a breast or butt cheek popping out or a guy wearing a ball cap or a tank top). However, your experience will be much more enjoyable if you are dressed nicely. The only signature restaurant I don't dress for is Brown Derby.

You don't have to dress up, just wear something a little nicer than what you would wear to the parks.

Wow! I may have to change my plans! We have ADR's for 5:30 and planned to head there right from MK. I posted my dress code concerns here some time ago and was assured that our attire would be suitable, however, if we have to return to the hotel to freshen up and change (we are at BWV) we will cancel our reservations and do a CS instead! We are not slobs, and I don't wear flip-flops to the parks but will have crops, a knit short sleeved top and birkenstocks. I don't want to be the only casual one there, and if I have to dress up it is not a vacation!

I don't think that your attire would be out of place. Just because others don't dress the same way doesn't make you wrong. However, if it would bother you to see others dressed differently, if you'd feel out of place even if no one did anything to make you feel that way, maybe it would be better to change your plans. Personally, I think it's worth freshening up - frankly, I don't know that I could enjoy a nice dinner if I hadn't first - but that's just me. To each their own! Either way you want to be able to relax and enjoy yourself, I'm sure.

I love that Disney is a pretty relaxing vacation but that said, I also think it's rather nice to get a little 'fluffed' to go to such a nice restaurant. I wouldn't want to dine in the same clothes at the CG right after hauling around a park all day. That's me though

Moms: The dress code is pretty clear--as Pakey has said, the only things absolutely not permitted are torn clothes, swim wear, tank tops on men, t-shirts with offensive wording/logos.
I can reasonably assure you that you won't be the only "casual" people there.

When DH and I went to CG in January more people were dressed down than dressed up there was one couple very dressed up clearly doing a dressy dinner and there was also a group of girls that were in coctail dresses having a great girls evening out. Everyone else was in park clothes or in polos/jeans. Personally I would dress however I felt comfortable as long as it was within the dress code, which is very open. Although I would never wear jeans to a business casual work environment I have seen a lot of women wear very nicer jeans and shirts to have coctails/dinner in restaurants that are business casual, and they never look out of place nor does management have any issue. Have fun and don't worry about what others are wearing as long as your attire is within the dress code limits.

We noticed most people were dressed up a little...just not with park clothes..shorts, t-shirts.

You will not be alone at all, we plan on going straight from MK to our ressie at CG also. We go for casual comfort which normally consists of a dri-fit Nike shirt and some comfy shorts...bf usually wears his dri-fit golf clothes so he is normally a bit fancier than me with a polo shirt.

You will see a little bit of everything though, it's your vacation you can wear what you want. Since we do a Signature meal every night and are always in the parks we don't find it useful to run back to our room shower, change, then go back out and sweat more. We'd be taking 3-4 showers a day in that case

I'd just follow the "do not wear this" rule and you'll be fine

My problem is packing, I hate to have to pack dress cloths. I was told that dress shorts and a nice top would be fine. It's shoes I am worried about. Does the CG have a check room. I need New Balance for walking and thought I would carry another pair of shoes for CG and check my sneakers. Is that possible?
