We've taken several Caribbean cruises and two Mexican Riviera cruises, although never on DCL. We much prefer the Caribbean, so the new itinerary didnt hold much appeal for us. Plus, the cash prices are ridiculous, IMHO. I haven't bothered to look at the points needed. I'm sure they are proportionately ridiculous.
We are booked on the August repositioning cruise and are trying to switch to the May trip. Either way we are expecting a fabulous cruise. We have never been through the Panama Canal.
We prefer to cruise on cash and save our points for on-site visits.
We have booked the July 2 2005 cruise along with 2 other DVC families for cash right now.. We are hoping at the 11 month window to book one or 2 passengers on points. Two of us are families of 5 and we each have 2 staterooms booked. What do you think the chances are of being able to book with points at the 11 month window?
We booked our CA-FL repositioning cruise for August on Cash (cat. 7 for 3 =$6283); out of curiosity I called to check on what the cost in points would be and was told 882. Cash is definitely the way to go no surprise there also, with the cruise in such demand the likelihood of getting onboard at all with points seems slim to me.
The repositioning cruises are very popular. I doubt anyone could convert their cash to a point ressie at the 11 month window. In fact the Magic is almost full for both of these cruises.
The 7 day Mexico cruises are not selling as well. Just check the availability at disneycruise.com The weeks I check have available cabins in all categories. Nothing is sold out. I think there will be some availability at the 11 month window
We're booked on the FL - CA repositioning cruise using cash. I'm pleased I was able to book us early Wednesday afternoon as soon as DCL started taking reservations. The information provided on these boards once again saved us hundreds of dollars. We're in a Cat 5 for 2 adults for $5500. Hopefully we'll be able to coordinate all that time off from our work obligations...I would hate to cancel this one.
I very much would like to use our points, but won't...it just isn't a good value. We'll be way ahead by renting our points and paying cash.
We really wanted to go with points. I may be missing something, but for us, using points would be a better value by far. To have to lay out all the $ for the repositioning cruise, when we've already pre-paid our points seems such a waste for us.
All that said, I doubt by the 11 month window that there will be anything available.
We have booked the May transition cruise with Cash... a lot of cash... so much so we are debating about selling one of our OKW contracts to cover it... so I suppose we would then be Cruising on points....
I have had the same reaction! I have thought about selling one of my OKW contracts too. Too many of the point exchanges are a poor value to the members.
How many points would you sell? I am thinking of selling my 150 point contract.
HM. I'm a little surprised on how the voting is going. But I too voted for 'not interested at all'. I would only have been interested if they would have had some 3/4day ones in there, to give at least a few days at DL. And there's no way at all I would do a 14 day. Too long for me to be away.
