So we're finally going to try Cali Grill and I'm super stressed out about the dress code. Are sneakers allowed with khaki shorts and nice clean t-shirt for DH? What about the kids DS,DD,and DD? DH says if he has to "dress up" cancel the ressie! I've been dying to eat here! Please help!

For the Signature Dining Restaurants, a "Business Casual" dress code is in effect:

Men - Dress pants, jeans or dress shorts and a T-shirt or long sleeve shirt with collar is required. (Jackets optional.)

Women - Jeans, skirts or dress shorts and blouse, sweater or dress is required.

NOT PERMITTED: Tank tops, swim suits or swim cover ups, hats for gentlemen, cut offs or clothing with rips/tears are not allowed. T-shirts with offensive language/graphics will also not be permitted.

The Signature Restaurants are:

Artist Point, Bistro de Paris, California Grill, Citrico's, Citrico's Chef's Domaine, Flying Fish, Fulton's Crab House, Il Mulino, Jiko's, Narcoossee's, Portobello Yacht Club, Shula's, Todd English's bluezoo, Wolfgang Puck Dining Room and Yachtsmen Steakhouse.

We've eaten there many times ... you all will be fine with sneakers, shorts and a nice t-shirt :thumbsup2

Really the only WDW restaurant that requires a specific dress code is Victoria and Alberts

The crowd at California Grill really runs the gamut. You will see suits and cocktail dresses, but you'll also see jeans and t-shirts. I personally don't like to feel under-dressed ever, but I wouldn't feel out of place in California Grill in good jeans, a nice top and pretty sandals. I don't think your husband will feel out of place in what you've described at all. If he can wear it on a golf course, he can wear it at California Grill.

One thing I will state is to pay attention to the list of prohibited items. In particular, I recall reading a report here last year of one family being turned away until their young daughter changed her clothes. Her denim skirt had some decorative fraying that the hosts felt didn't conform with the "no ripped or torn clothing" guideline.

I kept seeing threads about how the dress at Cali Grill was pretty casual, but we were there a few weeks ago and everyone was somewhere between dressy casual and less formal cocktail. DH, who brought khakis and dress pants this trip, insisted on jeans along with a golf shirt on our Cali Grill night ...he was definitely the most casual dress wise of the bunch that evening.

We dine here often enough. Most men are wearing slacks or dress shorts with polos. I usually wear capris or a dress.

If you want to wear tennis shoes you can but most people will be dressed nicer than that. This is not a very casual place.

He would probably be allowed to eat wearing shorts and a nice t-shirt however he would be grossly underdressed.

Most men wear slacks and a button up or a polo.

I usually wear a dress. Sometimes I wear dressy jeans a nice top and blazer paired with heels.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I've sadly decided to cancel our ressie. I don't want to chance getting turned away and do not feel like dressing up on our vacation just to eat somewhere. We'll have to try somewhere else!

Maybe if your ressie is later it gets dressier? (9pmish). But i had ressies at 6pm and it was very casual.

I saw many ppl in casual attire. Shorts, khaki shorts, reg but nice tshirts, polo shirts, runners, even flip flops. You will be fine. Dont sweat it too much.

That's too bad ... unless something has majorly changed since we were there in May, I don't recall seeing anyone wearing "dressy" clothes when we ate there - same with our October trip last year :confused3

Updated: I checked the California Grill website on Disneyworld.com and this is what they have posted as dress code: (note the part about t-shirts being acceptable!)

when I called they told me park attire was fine:banana: just no cut offs or holes in the jeans or tank tops or halter tops or questionable graphic tee shirts and no flip flops. :worship: dining told me Victoria and Alberts is a strict dress code however.:thumbsup2

It really is less about what is "allowed" than it is what you would be comfortable in. I think you would have to look pretty slovenly to actually be turned away. What you describe would not get you turned away, but I agree with Sleeping Becca that your DH would be at the lower end of the dress spectrum. If that does not bother him or you, then go for it. If that would make you self-conscious, then you might want to reconsider. When we were there a week and a half ago, we were all pretty dressy, and our waiter made a point of complimenting us and telling us how refreshing it was for people to dress for dinner at what Disney considers to be an upper echelon restaurant. But by that, I took it to mean that many (most?) don't dress in business casual clothes, which means that the dress code is ignored. Without getting too judgmental, I am not sure what a "nice, clean t-shirt" means as it relates to outer wear at a Signature restaurant. A nice, clean t-shirt is what I wear under a nice, clean button down, Tommy Bahama or sport shirt. All your DH needs to feel right at home is a collar. If wearing a collared shirt is his idea of "dressing up" to the point of cancelling the reservation, well, then... I really shouldn't finish this sentence for fear of kicking up a dust storm. As Sweet Melissa pointed out, if it works at a golf course, it works at CG. But I don't play golf at too many (any?) golf courses that allow t-shirts as outer wear.

I agree. As I said, I really don't think that they enforce any of their "don'ts" from what I can tell. Getting turned away at the door should not be your concern. I think you would have to try really hard to put together an outfit that would get stopped at the door.

Last time we went there, the guy at the table next to us was wearing tracksuit pants and a tee shirt, like he just came from the gym.

I had gone to the trouble to change into a sundress, so it was kind of irritating since I apparently could have just stayed in my park clothes. And my husband had packed a collared shirt and khakis JUST for that meal.

Either enforce the dress code or get rid of it, really.
