Cali Grill: Bar only?

Can anyone just go up to the Cali Grill and sit at the bar and order drinks?

We don't want to eat, just enjoy a cocktail and the view!

Im also interested to know this, my dfs a very picky eater so i ve cancelled out eating here although id still love to see the view pref with a cocktail in hand

There is no direct access to CG. You have to be escorted up with a key card in the elevator.

You can check in at the podium to see if they are able to accomodate your request, but they may not be.

Yes, you can. However, you must check with the desk on the 2nd floor. They will call up and see if there is room for you at the lounge. (The lounge area is quite small.)

My best suggestion is to get there before they open at 5:30 if you want to do this, and take note that the place will probably be pretty crowded around the time for the MK fireworks and there's not much chance you'll get up there. You should be prepared to be turned away.

You can also order from the full menu in the lounge. They'll get you a drink if you are up there prior to 5:30, but no food will be served before that time.

The short answer - yes, DH and I did this back in November. We were in Florida just of the weekend with DH's brothers. We were staying about an hour away and only there for a very limited time - but I just couldn't be so close and not visit Disney at all, so...the four of us took a drive over and got to the Contemporary just in time to see Wishes! Afterward, we went over to the Outer Rim for a few drinks and appetizers. At about 11 we decided to find out if it would be ok to go up to CG, so we went over to the desk and explained that we just wanted to go up for a few drinks. They said no problem, and took us right up! The bar/lounge area wasn't very crowded, probably due to the late hour...so I'd have to agree with a previous poster - try it off-peak hours for dinner. But I'd suggest going later, it's a better view at night.
