I need to remember that this board exists!! LOL...

I just thought that I would share some pictures of cakes that I did for a friend's son's 1st bday over the weekend...the theme was "Happy Feet"

My interpretation of Mumbles from the movie Happy Feet! I used my 3D Teddy Bear pan. I'm pretty happy with the way he turned out! He was used as the "smash cake" for the little boy.

This was the cake for the guests to eat. It is 2 12 inch square cakes stacked on top of each other (one layer was french vanilla and the other was chocolate) and iced in buttercream. I got the Happy Feet characters from Toys R Us and placed them on top of the "snow" covered cake!

You'll notice the little smudgey mark in the icing around the bottom border...well, the sister of the birthday boy helped herself to the icing! I set the cake on the counter, she pulled a chair up, stuck her finger in the icing, licked her finger, and said "mmmmm...good" before we even had a chance to react to what she was doing! It was frightening and funny all at the same time! (She's 2 1/2)

Both cakes were huge hits with the guests!!!

Wow great cakes. I'll have to show them to Dh - he is the cake man for our family. He is making one for his nieces baby shower on sunday and he is still looking for inspiration. ohmy

Both aer really great!:cool1: I have never heard of a smash cake, what is that?:confused3

A smash cake is typically a cake that is given to a child on their 1st birthday. This allows them to smush and eat and whatever they want to it without interferring in the cake for the party guests. :)

Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments!

They are fantastic! I can't believe you went to so much trouble for your baby to destroy it:scared1: I hope you got some fantastic photos (please post!) after all that. I love the happy feet one too. I once did one for DS(13) I think when he was 4, where I stuck some Jungle Book characters out of Christmas crackers onto a plain green cake - he loved it! I usually make a cake for family - which tastes great but looks a bit  - and for the party cake I buy one from the supermarket in whatever shape/character the birthday boy chooses - after all, its just cut into pieces and wrapped in napkins before the guests squash it into the party bags:rotfl2:
