Cake question

I don't know if anyone can help me with this. We picked out a cake and my EM told me it would cost us $20 pp. How do they know how many people are going to be there. We haven't given a final count yet. If you have 10 people, that would be $200 but with 20 people its $400 for the same cake. Does that mean $20 per each person the cake feeds? Eh gads! That would cost a fortune! I hate to bother her as her mother is gravely ill in the hospital and she is replying to e-mails from home (when not at the hospital), but we are really trying to finalize our budget. Anyone have this happen and could explain it to me?

Jessi, most cakes there have a minimum of 40 or 50 people. so you have to pay for that many people having cake whether they are there or not. For example, my cake was $7.50 per person for 50 people. So even though I only had 25 people there, my cake was big enough to feed 50 and I paid $375 for it.

You can go to yourfairytale.com for a complete, but slightly outdated, list of cake prices and minimums.

Thanks Firefly Girl. Wow! The cake we wanted fed 50 people so that would be $1000 on top of what was already credited from my package. Maybe we will just pick another cake.

Wow--that is interesting, and good to know. I was quoted $9.50 per person and when I contacted my sales manager to see ift here were any lesser options, I was told that that was the cheapest possible option.

Are cakes one of the items that we are able to bring in from outside vendors? If so, has anyone had any good experiences that they want to share??

Disney does allow you to use an outside vendor for your wedding cake, but they charge a cutting fee to cut the cake for you - often-times, this makes it completely uncost-effective to use an outside vendor.

Keep in mind that your wedding cake will count towards both your minimum expenditure, as well as your minimum per person food/beverage expenditures for your reception location as well.

Disney cake prices are in line with outside vendors generally.

Also, since my wedding was almost a year ago, cake prices could have definitely gone up. Have you done a planning session yet Codie? You can see pics of all the cakes Disney makes and a price list for each.

No planning session yet for me. FDH and I can't find the perfect date yet:)
So there were cakes less than the $9.50 per person?

Like I said, mine was $7.50 per person, but this was all priced out in Dec 03.

no matter what cake you pick, the feeds 50 people. we had about 25 people at our wedding and bought a cake that feeds 50 and more! so though we wanted a smaller cake for cost reasons, it just can't be done. when is your wedding by the way? if it's close, get on the horn now and start getting replies.

FYI - I am getting married in March, and our cake is $8.50 p/p. I believe that was the cheapest when we got the list, but I could be wrong. Also, I didnt believe you could bring any food/beverages from off property.

Jessi,

It sounds like you picked out a very elaborate cake. Disney prices cakes by the decorations, not the food cost. The fancier, the pricier. They will charge you a "per person" cost so they can accurately supply your cake serving needs.

What about ordering a white groom's cake? I am sure that is frowned upon, but who cares? It's your wedding. That might be a less expensive option, or at least there wouldn't be so much cake left over. Others who have had weddings there might know if it can be done...

Grooms cakes are done in any number of styles. You pick and choose. The bakers/decorators are very good at creating an individualized grooms cake i.e. the grooms fav sports team, hobby, job. Don't be afraid to ask! :earsboy:
