Cake Q: Thawing out the Anniversary layer...

So November 14th will be mine and DH's first anniversary! Wow how time has flown.

I tried searching but couldn't find anything. Does anyone know how to go about thawing out the Anniversary layer of the cake? And how long this process takes?

It was such a good cake!!

Maggie,

I think if you put it into the refrigerator a 2-3 days before your anniversery it should thaw out ok. If you have is wrapped in plastic wrap, you may want to loosen that up or re-wrap it before you put it in the fridge. You wouldn't want any ice crystals melting onto the cake and getting it all soggy.

I also think if you took it out of the freezer and put it on the counter a few hours (maybe 6) it would have time to thaw.

You could always check at the grocery store too. I think that Pepperidge Farms sells frozen cakes. You could check that box and see what is says about serving it.

They never got the anniversary layer because their cake was just big enough for all of the guests. I felt bad for them then, but I was still a student for their first anniversary so I couldn't afford to do something nice for them then. I'll probably contact the wedding party to see what they think.

Congrats on your upcoming anniversary! I am just wondering how you preserved your anniversary layer. DF and I are honeymooning in Disney for two weeks and then we have to fly back to NJ, so I am not sure how to keep it from spoiling. I doubt there will be room for it in the hotel room freezer. I have noticed that a lot of brides have just enjoyed the anniversary layer on the honeymoon since they weren't able to get it home. Any tips? Thanks in advance!

Congrats Maggie! I don't remember what I did with the cake. I think I just put it in the fridge the night before...or left it out...I really don't remember. It tasted *slightly* old but still good...

We ate ours straight from the freezer and it was yummy! It's actually turned out well for two anniversaries since we still had some. We wrapped ours a million times in slice size portions so that we could do it that way.

haha!! I agonized over what to do about that for a while. Im glad I wore them.
