Okay so I am surprising my DD14 with a birthday vacation. It will just be the two of us since DBF entered the Navy (so proud of him! ) It will also be our first vacation just us two so I wanted to make it special. I booked at CRT and I was considering ordering a cake to surprise her. I have been to the cake thread and have seen all the lovely cakes and all the equally lovely prices. I understand the price but is it worth it. I have heard the freshness of the cakes is all over the place and it's a hit or miss. So should I go for it and order the cake or should I go smaller and go with cinderella's slipper desert? Just wondering what the overall experience has been with others who have ordered to this location or any other location serviced by The Contemporary Bakery.
Thanks in advance for any and all input:)

For the two of you, and considering that it's your DD, I'd go for something nice like the slipper. :)

The cake is ok, the decorations are quite good, and the sizes deceptive. An 8 inch cake is really big! The 6 inch would give leftovers to three people, and the smaller "cupcake" size I've seen looks just about right to me.

We were on regular DDP. We went for my son's 3rd birthday. I was really iffy on the cake thing...but decided against it...in a week, we got at least 3 free cupcakes, plus our desserts at every meal (counter service and table service) plus the assorted candy/mickey bars/dole whip floats...in other words a cake would have been overkill with all that sweet food!

With all the wonderful desserts and snacks that WDW has to offer, it seems a pay extra for a cake for 2 people to eat.

I would not order a cake. You're at WDW and will be dining at CRT. That's pretty special right there. Enjoy it for what it is. A cake is overkill, IMO.

Thanks for the opinions, other info I should add that I did not originally. CRT is the second day we are there and we do have a fridge in our room for left overs. Also it is an end of the day ressie at 8:30 so we will be leaving the park when we are finished are a few of the reasons I was even considering a cake with just the two of us.

I'd still go with the slipper. Disney makes nice cakes but they are VERY expensive. The ones that are reasonably priced are not the "cool" looking and still overpriced. You can get a cool decorated cake at home if you pay that kind of money.... but you can't get a chocolate slipper! That too me is a really special surprise!

The cakes are beautiful no doubt but they really aren't needed. We've been several times around birthdays and if you eat at a Disney restaurant, you almost always get a giant cupcake or even a special desert from the chef. These things are large enough for three people to eat. After a meal and desert, well, when they bring out a giant cupcake or special desert its usually all one can do to take a bite or two and appreciate the thought from the cast. Very nice but its death bu sugar!

I would get a slipper or the mini castle cake. Since you will get dessert at CRT, something small is always the best IMO. The Slipper is 12.50 and you ahve the choice or dark(semi-sweet) or white chocolate and the mini castle cake for 1 is closer to $30 I think. they are both beautiful and don't brake the bank. One more thing, if you order a cake, it will be 6" minimum with some places being 8" which means lots of cake for 2 people to eat. You'll have left overs for the entire week and then some.

I am also planning a late dinner for my dd's birthday. I am simply going to order a cake at the podium like I did for my ds last year. I believe it was around $20 and we can take it back to the room.

My daughter has already mentioned a cake because her brother got one, but I'm sure the slipper would also be a wonderful choice!

We have ordered 3 Disney cakes and they were all fabulous but expensive. We have always had more than 2 people to eat it. I agree they are big. We also had the slipper when we were engaged.

If it were me, I would order the cake if you are going to be there on her birthday. In my family, we always have cake on birthdays and it would be sort of a let down if we didn't get a birthday cake. It may be different in your family. Yes, you may get cupcakes but IMO, a cake (or even a slipper with Happy Birthday written on the plate) would make your DD feel special on her day. As I said, we have ordered three cakes (one for my nephew, one for my mom, and one for me) we were happy with the quality, taste, and appearance of all of them. Maybe we were just lucky.

Our next visit, we will be there for our anniversary. I'm on the fence about a cake for this. 1) we normally wouldn't buy a cake at home we would just eat dessert out 2) we are going with another couple so there would be 5 of us to split a small cake (they have a daugther who is old enough to eat cake; we also have a daugther but she will only be 10 months during our trip). I'm still considering.
