Ok. So in less than a month DF and I will be going to WDW for our planning session. But since I got the Cake CD I have been trying figure out what kinds of fillings. So I start listing them off to DF over the phone... and he was like "hold on, isnt there anything that is not mousse?" cause he doesn't like mousse. So does disney offer anything other than mousse for the cake filling? I want at least the anniversary layer to be something DF will like. He said he would at least try the mousses at the planning session, but I don't know what is going to happen. Anyone got any ideas on what else could be put in the cake???

Maybe just fresh fruit (strawberries) in some kind of a frosting or cream?

We have discussed that, but I think i read somewhere else that its an extra $50 for a layer of strawberries in a cake. Its a possibility. Not sure about the frosting, i think DF doesn't like the texture of mousse, and frosting could be the same problem. He seems to just a pie kinda person. I, on the other hand, am a dessert kind of person... I just love them all.

He might find out that he likes the mousse. My father was incredibly unhappy with us going with mousse and wanted traditional buttercream with white cake. When he actually got it (almond cake with amaretto mousse) he went on and on and ON about the cake. I also brought home half our 2nd layer, a marble cake with chocolate mousse and fresh raspberries (which your fiancee might like, that way there is less mousse and they don't charge extra for that) but then my dad had like 3 pieces and kept raving it was some of the best wedding cake ever.

As far as mousse goes, its not real thick or creamy, it seems very light and fluffy, which he might like-sort of.

Also the buttercream is not like any buttercream I've ever had. Its not very sweet but they should have some you can try and if he likes that you can use that as your layer. They also have a cream cheese frosting (which I know is still frosting, but maybe he would like it better) That would probably be good with some fruit as well

What about bavarian cream with fresh strawberries, that's what we are having:thumbsup2

He has told me for sure that he does not like Chocolate mousse... but with raspberries that sounds amazing to me!

I personally have never had bavarian cream. What is it like?

They call it mousse, but the texture of the fillings we tried was not at all like I imagine mousse (i.e., light and fluffly). The texture of the flavors we tried was more like thick frosting or cream cheese. Also, you can always do buttercream as the filling - or even cream cheese!

i agree with the above postings. the fillings really dont taste like mousse. they each to me had there own tevture and flavor. he might fing that he likes atleast one of them. also my dh mom said she sisint even want to try them becouse she does not like mousse but when we got there she loved all of them. i think you guyes will be able to find oone that you like.

My DF is a "pie guy" too.... so I can't wait to here about your tasting!
But then again, he got all pouty when I told him I will just choose the flavors since he wouldn't like it anyways. Boys! :rotfl:

Had to chime in to agree with sunsh1ne and lurkyloo... the fillings aren't really mousse. One of the ladies in the bakery explained it all to me once, but I couldn't tell you what she said at this point!

The fillings are very much like what we would think of as frosting. They are thick, not light and fluffy. It is not like chocolate mousse from a restaurant. It is like a regular cake filling with specific flavors.

I wanted to try the Bavarian cream, but DF vetoed that one. Bavarian cream is sort of like Boston cream? Like a custard? Correct me if I'm wrong!

The "mousse" fillings used by the Disney bakeries are a mousse only by procedure when preparing. Traditional mousse has the same ingredients, but traditional mousse has whipped egg whites folded in at the end of the mixing process, thus the mousse (french for foam) texture. Disney mousse fillings do not have this. The egg whites would make a wonderful texture for a dessert, but would be too soft for cake fillings. The fillings are an integral part of the cake structure.

Disney wedding cake mousse fillings are more dense in texture, and very creamy and rich.

Your other options for fillings are the afore mentioned bavarian cream (think dense Boston Cream Pie filling), cream cheese, or peanut butter filling. Peanut butter filling can be just that, or you can request the "peanut butter cup" filling, which is half peanut butter filling and half dark chocolate mousse filling in each layer.

Fresh fruit (strawberries, raspberries) are not an extra cost item for "wishes/custom" events. This was an extra cost item with Escape/Intimate weddings, but this may change in the future.
