What is the ambience of this restaurant like? The menu seems similar to that of Blue Bayou, but we were curious what the difference between the two is. Obviously CO won't have the atmosphere of BB, but we just wanted to hear some opinions. I know it is sit-down, but is it relatively quick or more slow-paced? Easy or hard to get in? Would you FOR SURE make a PS for this restaurant before leaving town, or could you wing it and wait to see when you feel hungry?

Thanks for any and all opinions!

Yes on a reservation or risk a long wait even at off hours. You might look at some pictures for ambiance. BB is a top Disney resturaunt for that. CO is more cafe like as it should be. Will it be quick, probably not, but not slow unless you eat slow, the food doesn't take a long time to come out. As with anywhere you could get a waiter who tries to push you on your way, or one who is patient to let you relax.

As you noted the menus are similar, but each place has items the other doesn't so you might want to know your order before making a reservation.

During busy seasons/times, it is really important to make your ps, if you are set on getting in. That being said, one of the busiest trips I took was October of 09, and when I saw the pattern our trip was taking with the people we were traveling with I knew we needed to have some PS's and when we entered the park and were on our way to splash mountain, I swung by the front of CO, asked if they had any available times and was able to snag a 1:15 time for that day. WhaLa, when my party all of sudden had to eat as soon as possible and not fast food please, I was able to produce this option and they still rave about that meal!

So, depends on your party, your eating patterns and flexibility, and when you are going to be there.

I like the atmosphere. I always sit outside and people watch. Try for a rail table. It has a new orleans street atmoshpere feel. If that means anything?

Blue Bayou has a more intimate atmosphere ....mostly because it's dark (read romantic) and sitting on the water of POC. It is definitely fun to watch the POC boats go by (and have people on those boats waving at you!). There are of course a limited number of the "waterside" tables and if you're too far back you can't really see the boats, so if that matters, get to your reservation early and beg for a waterside table, lol.

Cafe Orleans is a brightly lit restaurant and there is both indoor and outdoor seating. I'm a people watcher so I actually like sitting outside and near the rail/walkway so that I can be entertained by those passing by. It can be a bit cool especially this time of year since it's outside, so be sure you have your jacket handy for dinner reservations.

Food wise....the Monte Cristo is exactly the same at CO as it is at BB, but several dollars cheaper at CO. Also it's not actually on the BB dinner menu, but you can request it. At CO you can get Pomme Frites which I don't think you can at BB, and they're really really delicious. Addictive even, lol. The only other thing I've ever had was the salmon salad which is really delicious, but mostly salad with a rather small piece of salmon, so delicious but not super filling by itself.

Reservations are always a good idea so that you don't have to wait around or miss out if they're booked.....but don't write off just stopping by and asking if they have something available....we've done that at CO almost every trip and never been turned away.....not quite as good luck at BB, but I'm usually more interested in the food than the dark romantic atmosphere since I'm usually at Disney with my teens, lol.

Thanks for all the replies! We did eat at BB on our last trip, and we think we might give CO a try. Does anyone have any pictures of inside the restaurant or the outside seating? Thanks in advance!!!

Sitting on the patio of CO is one of my favorite DL past times. The view, the people watching, the dixie land band, the architecture, the landscaping, the paddle wheeler gliding by. It's hard to explain to non Disney types about the appeal of this spot. The disneyland designers just got this one right when they put it together. The food is good though secondary to my reasons listed above. In some ways I actually prefer this spot over BB and 33.

I just wish they still offered fritters.

We have eaten at both, and I have to say CO won hands down for server attention and food quality. We sat waterside at BB, no reservation and we thought we were very lucky to get in. However, we were in the last table by the kitchen doors. Yuck! Our server was to say the least not on her best day. We were rushed in and out! No follow up! No drink refills! Food was eh, though the potatoes rocked. We ordered a monte cristo, a kids steak, kids mac and cheese (LOL) and a roast chicken dish. Total bill with AP discount $88 It was our anniversary and even though we both had buttons on had to ask for a dessert. This was a chocolate mousse. Not tthat special, but complimentary.

CO The server was great! Engaged my DD's with questions etc. We ordered a monte cristo, pomme frites ( to die for!), kid's mac and cheese, and I think a vegetarian rissoto(?) dish for DH. Food was great! Served hot! We enjoyed a leisurely meal people watching. Tons of free refills on ice tea etc. End of the meal here comes the waiter with a birthday fritter for my DD complete with candle and a free souvenir spoon. She was over the moon! Needless to say he got a big tip and a "thank you, great service" comment on the ticket. Totally different experience for about 1/2 the price. We will be going back for sure if just fro the pomme frites ( think Dodger garlic fries only fancy with a spicy dip!)

Sorry for the book!

Thanks for all the replies, pictures, etc. I think we'll go with CO. We can't wait to sit and enjoy a relaxing meal.
