Hi all I'm new to the Dis Boards! We are planning our DL trip in late October :woohoo:. My daughter would like to have the Mickey beignets at the Cafe Orleans but we don't necessarily want to sit down and eat there. Could we just order them to go or do we have to do the whole sit down meal? Thanks for your help in advance!

Beignets are available in Downtown disney at Jazz Kitchen Express. They aren't mickey ones but they are just as good. :thumbsup2

I think they sell them as counter service at the place next to the pirates entrance that sells the bread bowl gumbo and clam chowder don't they?

They sell the sugared fritters (similar to a beignet; not mickey shaped) at the Mint Julep Bar by the French Market. Unfortunately, it's hit-or-miss whether the Mint Julep Bar will be open or not. I've seen it open during slow days & closed during busy days, so I have no idea what they base whether or not it will be open on.

The beignets from Jazz Kitchen Express also aren't Mickey shaped, but they're really, really good! They also sell beignet mix from Cafe' du Monde in New Orleans there. It was a bit tricky, but with a Mickey shaped cookie cutter, I was able to replicate Cafe' Orleans' Mickey beignets at home. :thumbsup2

My daughter & I had them for afternoon tea. We just ordered the beignets and a drink at Cafe Orleans, so maybe if you dont want a full meal there you could just stop for a quick bite? They are really really good especially with the jam & cream they are served with:thumbsup2

I wonder if I can go there and just order those fries (can't remember what they are called) and the beignets. Totally unhealthy "meal" but it sounds good to me.

Pommes Frites.

And yes, you can do that. I was an eyewitness to it happening.

You can go and order just the beignets, or you can order just the pomme frites and the beignets, but you do have to eat them there. Unfortunately you can't get them as take out.

Oooh! I just can't wait to indulge in pommes frites and beignets while sitting outside people watching. Or, should I say, people watching me eating, while I watch people.....:lmao:

Add in a cup of gumbo & that's the meal I usually order whenever I eat there.

The Mickey beignets & pommes frittes always get split at least 2 ways, though.

The Mint Julep Bar sells Mickey beignets now. When I was eating @ the French Market last week, I saw someone holding a bag & eating the beignets & realized that it came from the Mint Julep Bar!

That's exactly what I order every time I go to Cafe Orleans: a gumbo bowl, pomme frites, and the Mickey beignets (for sharing, of course ;)). Now that's what I call an excellent meal.

How many beignets and pomme frites do they give you? Too much for one person?

Well....it depends on if you have a Monte Cristo between the Pommes Frittes and Beignets! ;)

Yes, they were too much for me. (We dined there just to watch Fantasmic!, btw. WAY better than waiting for a spot IMHO. What can I say? I get bored easily!)

The pomme frites is a pretty good sized bowl. We shared one (as a side) with 4 people (although 2 in our party only had a few).
And there are 5 beignets per order :)
HTH

Mom2aJessieGirl, could you please tell me your strategy for eating and watching Fantasmic? Specifically, what time of arrival, table to request, etc?? Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your replies! We might just go during Fantasmic! and have her birthday dinner there :cheer2:
