Cafe Orleans or Blue Bayou

if moneys no matter bb go in side have a nice time. i actuely think some of the food is same price just do lunch not dinner

Check out the menus on allears.net [edited] and choose the food you think you would like better!

BB has a great atmosphere, but it's really dark and very expensive. Cafe Orleans (I've only eaten outside) is fun (b/c it's like you're in a bright and shiny New Orleans) and has what looks like a good menu (I've only eaten there for b'fast) and with lower prices.

I have dined at both, and although I did like Café Orleans, I prefer the Blue Bayou for it's atmosphere and menu as well.

Here is the menu for the Blue Bayou:

Now what is interesting is that I was under the belief that the split plate charge was $4.00 for lunch and $4.99 for dinner, however that information is from a menu dated Oct.07, to where this menu is dated, March 08, so the split plate charge probably is the same for lunch as it is dinner.

The split plate for BB at lunch was only $4 on May 26th.

Oh I'm so upset with myself for not making room for Cafe Orleans on our last visit. Grr. We were going to, we were going to have lunch at CO and then dessert at BB, but then our day was weird and I felt guilty about "only" dessert at BB, so we just ate at BB.

Had a conversation with our server at BB, and she said that they are MORE than happy to serve customers whatever they want from the menu, and that if we ever want to just have dessert, to just order only dessert. Of course, I had that convo AFTER we had had a (split) meal. :headache:

So OP, if all you want is the dessert from BB, go for it! Might want to tell them before they bring you a roll (good yummy rolls) since that might be an odd combo. :goodvibes

Good to know, for I like to have accurate information, about everything! ;)
So I figure it this way, the split plate fee for lunch is $4.00 and for dinner it is $4.99, frankly that does make more sense to me, then the price being the same, for both. I have not ordered split plate before, but I just might, at least once, during my next trip. It makes sense to me, to order that way, at least some of the time.

If you've never tried BB before, do give it a chance. It is such a special place to eat like no other in either park. It's a tradition for us. At least to say you've done it! CO is pretty good, tho. So no loser here...

I was just thinking do desert at BB and go to cafe Orleans for lunch so much cheaper lol and all i really must have is the pirate cake thingy lol it will be a good mid day rest any ways.

We just ate at BB. The gumbo was the best item - if it's the same one served at Cafe Orleans then I would go there. The food was good at BB but not fabulous for the prices. The main on the entrees were quite good and a decent portion but I did not care for the potatoes everyone raves about and the veggies had an 'off' taste. My ds11 really enjoyed his crabcakes. For the same price range as BB lunch and far better food is Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen - one of the best meals we had at DLR. Still glad I tried BB - really cool atmosphere.

We have eatten at BB before they changed menu and pricing. I do enjoy it, but w/ 2 small DD's I am not sure it is worth it anymore.

Never eatten at CO, but hear you all talking about it alot. DH loves the Monte Cristo (sp) and I understand from you all that is is great at CO and a good price as well.

So the reason for my question w/o giving you a lot of back ground was to get a good range of answers. Silly I know, but I didn't want any..... well it's up to you answers.

I thank you all for your FYI and will talk w/ DH about what will be best based on your answers.

You know, it is fabulous how we all share great FYI and make our trips better even if we are old hats at DL. Sometimes things change or we may have never tried something and BAM one of our freaky DIS friends (yes I think of this board as a bunch of friends) has done it and helps us make a better trip next time.

If anyone else has anything to share about BB or CO, go ahead and do so.

:thumbsup2

I agree about Ralph Brennan's. We love that place.

You are going to BB for atmosphere, not food. If you really want to do it for the atmosphere and money is no object, then do it. Otherwise, don't bother.

I didn't notice the garlic fries on the Cafe Orleans menu. Does anyone know if they're still serving them? They were to die for! Here's what we did to avoid the split charge...One of ordered the Monte Cristo and the other ordered the garlic fries. We split the sandwich and fries and it was just the perfect amount for both of us! I sure hope they're service those garlic fries! Mmmm!

They still have the garlic fries - Pommes Frites! They are good and a really LARGE order though! I think it's a good idea to order one sandwich and one fries to split - way too much otherwise (we did that and could not even eat half of what we got!). I would maybe add some veg in there somewhere, just because I'm a mom :lmao:

Haven't eaten at BB in awhile, but did eat at CO on Friday. I enjoyed my crab salad sandwich, and the kids loved the Pommes Frites! DD liked the blackened salmon salad very much. My parents didn't really enjoy their crepes, though. One had the seafood one and the other had the gumbo one. :confused3 Service was a bit slow, but we were a party of 9. Our server, Jason, was great and very friendly.

Good to know that you can just order dessert at BB! Think I'll do that next time around, so as to keep the expenses down.

We have decided to try CO for breakfast one morning and then add dessert at BB a different day.

:cool1:

(is this like Hanna Montanna getting the best of both worlds? :rotfl: )
