Hi all
Thanks for all the advice last time I posted, we are now staying in hotel Cheyanne & cant wait!
Now, was thinking about booking a character meal.... now, dont want to do breakfast, seein as we already pay for breakfast in the main price, and, not that were cheapskates, but we are really havin to budget, but get the most out of it that we can! (ive been off work, so not getting paid  :sad1: )
So, we are looking at evening meal at Cafe Mickey.
Firstly - is that the best choice?? Boys will be 4 1/2yrs & 2 1/2yrs. Now, I have a small appetite, so dont really want to do the booking of the meal (£21) with the set menu in case theres way too much, and I feel I have to eat my moneys worth..:rotfl2: :rotfl2: . How big are the actual portions??
Also, can I just reserve a table, and then, when we arrive, choose whatever we want - kids maybe on the set menu etc?
And lastly.... would 6pm be a good choice?? Would we get to see the characters (I mean, would the kids get to see the characters:rotfl: ) at that time, and would it be busy (going in June).
Oh, and is the number to book the dining reservations number in the back of the brochure, or do we book direct with Cafe Mickey??
Any other advice appreciated, just trying to get out of the trip as much as we can, without getting too stressed before we go!!
Really cant wait, as my oldest keeps telling me who he wants to see.... minnie, cinderella & monsters inc so far!!

Thanks very much
Nikki

We've never eaten at cafe Mickey apart from breakfast but from what I gather you just order what you want from the menu.

You call the dining reservation no to reserve or could do it when you arrive.

6pm would probably be a good time as it shouldnt be too busy then so you will have more time with the characters

Another good option if you are on a budget is the character tea party at Plaza Gradens- about £9 each (cheaper for children I think)

The character tea party is really good especially if you're on a budget. You get to meet lots of characters but the tea is mainly sweet things which we're happy with.

At Cafe Mickey I think the characters start at 6.00 pm or 6.15 pm so an early reservation like 6.00 pm is good. It does get very busy and we much preferred eating earlier than later. You can choose what you want off the menu. DD and I just had main courses and desserts and DH just had starter and main course. Also DD (13) is quite a fussy eater but they were happy for her to eat off the kids' menu if she wanted. She has done this before although last time she went for the adult pizza and that was huge! We've also eaten there for a late lunch and it was much quieter then.

Have you considered Lucky Nugget for lunch as that has good character interaction and I think from memory it is cheaper than Cafe Mickey. It is a buffet so you just help yourselves. Very yummy desserts there too!

Hi Nikki! This thread might help, and you can probably get a good idea of portion sizes and the like! http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=14411106#post14411106

If you decide on Cafe Mickey do book well in advance. I didn't book our meals before we left thinking that as it was the first week in March it wouldn't be a problem to book at the Cheyenne when we arrived. I'd wanted that early 18.15 slot but it wasn't available at all and in the end we went at 19.45. Even though we had a reservation we had a long wait in the cold for a table to become available . In the end we only ordered a main course each because my son (5) was getting tired. It's a shame because the place had a great atmosphere the characters were fun and the menu looked good. (I would like to have tried a starter or dessert but basically it was too late.) My son actually prefered the Lucky Nugget (but of course that was lunch time so he wasn't knackered!) and if we had had three courses at Cafe Mickey it definetly would have been more expensive.
We had a lovely photo with Sulley from Monsters inc at the Walt Disney Studios -he's got a meet and greet there.

We are off to DLP on 24 Mar and cant wait!! have just booked a meal at cafe mickey for 6.15 on our 2nd day - never been before!! Is this the earliest time slot - it is the earliest I was offered for an evening meal but dont know if that is because they were already booked before then coz i thought i had read on here that some people have been at about 5pm?? also - what time do the characters come round and any tips for maximising character interaction - dd is 5 and ds is 2 so we want to make the most of the characters:)

We`ve been before and booked for 6.15 ,got loads of character interaction and we just picked off the menu what we wanted ,and the kids still got 2 desserts, they all chose ice cream and then the cm told them they could help themselves to the kids pud buffet as well!!
Just booked for our first night there -27th march and as we`re taking dd`s best friend with us whos birthday is the day before we`ve also booked a cake.
Best bit was that they told me to phone davy crockett as they will make sure theres a birthday card waitn gin the cabin for her as well.I think she might just explode on the first day-shes never been to dlp before and has been counting down since dec!

hmmmmmmmmmm now im all confused lol
just had a look at the tea party, that sounds great (tho not great for my diet lol) is it just cakey things, or are there more savoury stuff too???
oh dear,am beginning to see y ppl have so many days there - its to fit everything in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also, was thinking, if we have dinner, we will miss candleabration, and thats not fair lol
i guess the other option is lunch time, 12.30pm?? how busy is that likely to be?? and think im more sold on cafe mickey, that the lucky nugget, as can see more stuff at mickey that the kids wud eat..... but then, the tea party wud be fun too - is that again a complete mixture of characters??? and not a very 'healthy' meal if its just pastries lol

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this is hard lol

The tea party is mainly sweet things but there are some savoury things as well - when we went there was bread, croissants, sausages, omlette, hash browns, pizza, fruit salad, yoghurts etc as well as all the different cakes.

You could help yourself as many times as you wanted and also to hot and cold drinks.

There were loads of characters but Mickey wasnt there. I think you are more or less guaranteed to see him at cafe Mickey

My DD actually found the Lucky Nugget menu more to her taste than the Cafe Mickey one. And whilst Cafe Mickey is fabulous for atmosphere, its also very noisy when its busy (as it is most evenings).

We had a Lucky Nugget lunch in November - it was the quietest character meal we've ever had, and consequently, we had more character interaction at that one than at either Cafe Mickey or the Plaza Gardens tea party. Plus live music.

The plaza gardens tea party also have savoury items like hash browns, eggs, sausage etc I believe now as well as the pastries and desserts.

All 3 restaurants have their pluses, its all about what you'd really prefer. If you're on a budget, theres absolutely nothing wrong with the Plaza Gardens tea party as a first character meal.

I also wouldn't miss seeing Candleabration at least once on our trip.

debbiebee you will be in Cafe Mickey at the same time as us. We are booked in for 6-30pm on the 25th March - look out for the wheelchair with my grandson in and please say hello. There are 8 of us including two very excited toddlers. We have booked a birthday cake for my DW, so I'm hoping one of the characters brings it out for her.

I'm a bit sad to be missing candlebration on our first night, but I think the kids will be extremely tired by then, as we are booked on the 7am Eurostar that morning, so I thought we would be better eating a little earlier and getting them back to SL for bed around 8ish.

We are going to decide on our other meals once we arrive, but both Lucky Nugget and Plaza Gardens sound good, but then again, so do Walts and the one in SL so I guess we just haven't booked enough days!!

We have a tradition to have lunch at Cafe Mickey on our last day in DLRP. We just love it! We normally book the table for 12.30-12.45 and have 2-3 course meal. We took our time and get back into the park for the parade. Lunch time isn't as busy as dinner time, we've never had to wait to be seated and we went in June, July and mid Dec when the parks were very busy. I do think you'll be better off having lunch and seeing the characters etc. The restaurant is busy but not packed and the atmosphere is fantastic!

The food in CM is great, cooked on the spot, the menu is quite big and really nice things to choose from, my DD1 always had Mickey pasta followed with ice-cream and she loves all the interraction with the characters.:thumbsup2

Never eaten at Lucky Nugget so don't know what it's like.

We love Cafe Mickey - going back there for lunch in April::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

hi kevg1889 - we will look out for you:) we arrive on the monday so it will be our 2nd day there. what time is candlebration that week? thanks

The parade times are up now on the main DLRP site and I think candlebration is at 7pm. We leave Sheffield on Monday, and are having a night in London ready for our 7am train on the Tuesday. Look forward to meeting you - we might be able to get a group photo for my trippie to show that Dissers really do meet up.
